When the customer shows hospitality = AWESOME!!

Yesterday was a good day. It wasn't especially different than any normal day: get the crew started, do some estimates, do some paper work, a lot of driving, and a lot of time on the phone.

But two customers made the day really good. And it was the simplest thing that did it: they both gave me a cold bottle of water while I did their estimate.

Obviously good contractor customer service is a must to stay in business, and to enjoy what you do if you're in the contracting world. Happy customers are so much more pleasant to deal with, and if a contractor has been great with their service it's a more smooth road when problems come up. The customer knows the contractor team cares, and they feel confident any problems can be overcome.

Flip this onto the other side, and a contractor that has been well taken care of by a customer (or in this case two potential customers!) and the contractor is going to go out of their way typically to take EXTRA care of the customer.

And the two nice ladies that I was doing estimates for yesterday were so thoughtful. It was a warm, humid day, and I walked around one house for over an hour taking notes on areas of water damaged trim and siding At the second house I had to crawl under the house to look at some water damaged subfloor, and it was pretty dusty/dirty.

And without me asking, both of them brought me a cool bottle of water. What a great thing!

It really made my day, and I just had to give a big THANK YOU to them both. What a good day.

Oh, I know what you mean. I get lots of offers for coffee or water - good sign that this is a nice customer. I especially get this w/ my Angieslist customers. They are some of my faves. (Hope you're using Angieslist...if not, let's talk in a few weeks...I have to get my new person up to speed so I can get out of this grind/hamster wheel.)

Debbie, it is usually a sign of a good customer.  Folks like that are very reasonable and, as long as we do good work, are easy to please.

I just signed up recently for the free Angieslist CompanyConnect service.  Got a call from it this week already.

A little kindness can go a long way. I think one of the very most important thing Mom taught me was politeness and etiquette. Until one has kids you don't realize how hard it is to teach those two things.

Doesn't it though, Bob?  It is hard to teach, and can often be overlooked.  But the small actions of those two ladies made a great difference!

Nice nice people!  I usually take water to guards at gated communities in the summer.  They work entirely too hard and I love putting smiles on people's faces with something SO simple!

Last week I was on my last inspection of the day and VERY thirsty. When the Realtor arrived he handed me a vitaminwater. Talk about right on time and just what I needed.
