Basic Home Maintenance Toolkit
At some point in time we all need a few tools to help us out fixing stuff in and around the house.
Here are some essential suggestions from “Peter’s Pfanntastic Tool Box”, and these tools take care of 90% of all the items on Peter’s “honey do” list, and although I am working on the list forever, it does not seem to ever get shorter………..
Basic Tools & Equipment

5-Gallon Bucket(s), so many good uses for them
Brass and steel brush, various sizes
Caulking gun,
Chisels, cold and wood
Circular and Jig saw (or a combo cordless set
Construction screws, assorted
Quick Clamps and tie downs
Cutting oil
Claw hammer & Crow-bar
Duct tape and Electrical tape
Combination square or speed square
Nails, assorted sizes and uses
Drill, cordless, 3/8-inch variable-speed reversible
Nylon scrub brush
Drill bit set
Paintbrush, standard rollers
Flashlight and Work Light(s)
Toilet Plunger and Drain Auger
Flat scraper or putty knifes
Rags and towels
Glue wood and all-materials (not Super Glue)
Shims, wedges
Hand saws, small, multipurpose
Silicone lubricant, waterless & oil-free
Ladder, 6-foot fiberglass
Shop vacuum cleaner
Level, 36- or 48-inch aluminum
Small sledgehammer
Pencils, markers, Chalk-line
Pliers, standard (slip-joint), long-nose, Channel lock, and wire-cutter (diagonal)
Sponges and other Clean up Tools
Gloves, rubber gloves & leather
Toothbrushes
Safety goggles and Ear Plugs
Screws, assorted uses and sizes
Sandpaper and sanding blocks (various grits)
Outdoor Extension cords (high quality)
Sawhorse(s) or Trestles
Drop cloth (s) & Tarps
Screwdrivers, several sizes of flathead, cross and square head
Dust Mask (buy a Good one)
Retractable Tape measure, 25-foot
Caulking interior and exterior
Utility knife and extra blades
Cutters or combination pliers
Wrenches, basic set of open-ended crescent
Set of ratchet socket wrenches
Set Allen wrenches
Some Strong Rope
Shovel, broom, dust pan (good quality)
Plumbers putty, plumbers tape
Portable workbench (Trestles may work)
Stud Finder
Knee pads
Construction quality Garbage Bags
It is Peter’s Experience that "buying cheap" does not pay off with tools and or safety equipment, look for the best quality you can afford, most good tools will last a lifetime. The next best Tool in your Tool box are good resources for assistance (books or the web) and a big dose of common sense……. Know what you can, and more importantly know what "you can not fix” and be prepared to call for help……..
