Spotlight on Canyon Creek Stars ~ Canyon Creek Elementary NW Austin Myth Masters team to "Global DI" competition in Knoxville TN
We are so proud of these 6 stars who are fifth grade students on the "Myth Masters" team for Canyon Creek Elementary.
They have been working hard to learn creativity, team work and problem solving through performance and improvisation since September 2010 so they can have the opportunity to compete against teams from across the globe! They breezed through a Regional tournament in Kyle, Texas in Feb. 2011, went on to the State Tournament in April 2011 and now are qualified to go to Knoxville, TN at the University of Tennessee May 25th - 28th to represent Texas!! Several of the team members have been working together for 6 years since kindergarten to reach this goal.
They are the first RRISD, Texas elementary school (out of 32 schools) to ever go to Global DI (Destination Imagination) competition. Folks, this is a big deal!! At the Regional Tournament this team of 6 garnered the Prestigious Spirit of DI Award for their enthusiasm and creativity!
In case you don't know what Destination Imagination is check it out at www.idodi.org. It's an extraordinary non-profit organization devoted to teaching three essential skills: creativity, teamwork and problem solving! Each team works to solve an Instant Challenge where they are given a problem and have no more than 10 minutes to solve the problem and present a solution. Since TXCPSO is a non-profit organization all contributions are tax deductible!
Congratulations to Andrew Lu, Arjun Jain, Carolyn Cravey, Prathyush Shankar, Shranya Errguntla and Tristan Yates for taking on this challenge and representing Texas. This outstanding group needs donations to cover the cost of registration, air transportation and transfers, shipping costs, additional supplies, housing and meals. We need you to open your wallets and contact Mathavi Shankar at mathavi@hotmail.com or 512-791-9800 to contribute to TXCPSCO. These kids will be our future leaders so let's give them all the support we can!
