Think, think, think

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

Today I found out that a business acquaintance that I highly respected died as result of injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred here in Colorado Springs.  It was an accident that was 100% avoidable.  Although no alcohol was involved, he made a serious, stupid decision that cost him his life.  Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were hurt.

I do pray that some good will come from his death somehow.  He suffered a great deal of physical pain while waiting for fire fighters to remove him from his car.  Parts of the recovery efforts were televised - for better or worse.  It took a long time and he was conscious.   The footage was shown in an attempt to "de-glamorize" the dangerous way that he was driving.

He will be greatly missed both professionally and by his numerous friends and family.   He has left a void.

The tragedy made me think.

•  The importance of using always using good judgment.  For Realtor's, our greatest temptations when driving most likely comes from being distracted while talking on the cell phone, texting (surely no one would be tempted to do that....) or speeding.

•   What will be your legacy?

That's a tragic story.

I always think about the senseless accidents caused by texting while driving.

Such accidents could be prevented if cell phone manufacturers were required to disable texting capability while the GPS chip senses the cell phone is in motion.  The hardware and software geniuses out here in Silicon Valley can figure that out easy.  Probably already have.  But, then passengers would complain that their texting should not be disabled because they're not driving.

At any rate, I'm sorry about your friend.

So sorry for the loss. "Think, think, think," is certainly good advice.

Sad, I am assuming he was texting....and the media got ahold of it.  If so, screa at us as a community and tell us not to do it!

I am saddened that his accident and suffering were televised.  What has become of us?

You will be in our thoughts today.

Sondra, this is a terrible story and I am very sorry for your acquaintance. So many people think they are immune from the laws of Physics and Biology when it comes to their health and life, and we are all very fragile beings when you think of it. Common sense and good judgment are in short supply in many people and one careless period of time and needless suffering and tragic death occur. I hope your post and the news coverage serves as a wake up call to at least a few out there to THINK and be safe. Texting in a moving vehicle or distraction if this is what this was about, so pointless and horribly unsafe. I think we should have a legacy of being smart, responsible people.

Sondra, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. You'll be in my thoughts...Texting while driving is against the law here and rightly so! Yet people still do it! Some communities are also 'hands free' cell phone mandatory. There are so many things people think are more important than concentrating on the road to the point where the actual driving becomes secondary or lower.

Sondra - sorry to hear about your loss. But yes, I sometimes find myself doing things behind the wheel that I should not, although I do not and have never texted while driving. Now eating a thick hamburger dripping mustard......

Sondra, like the others so sorry for your loss. It only takes a moment going 65 miles an hour for a major collision to occur. Hang in there.

I concur with all of the others in offering my sincere sympathy.  If he was doing something stupid that caused this, would you be willing to share what it was?  Obviously the concensus is that he was texting.  Whatever it was, you have my sincere condolences.

Oh, Sondra....oh....I just don't know what to say, my friend.  You are reaching out and maybe, MAYBE this can make a difference. At the very least, people will focus on it. TELEVISING IT? That reminds me of the all-too-true song the Eagles did called Dirty Laundry.

This whole thing is AWFUL.
