Rancho Santa Fe is an absolutely gorgeous community in the northern part of San Diego County, approximately 26 miles north of downtown San Diego. The weather is very similar to San Diego except Rancho Santa Fe is a bit higher in elevation so has a slight degree of more swings in temperature than at sea level. On rare occasions there has been snow in the winter and summer temps are often a few degrees warmer.
The town itself is about seven square miles with approximately 4,000 residents. A very affluent area, according to Forbes, Rancho Santa Fe is the third most expensive zip code in the U.S. and the first in California. The U.S. Census reports RSF as one of the highest income places with at least 1,000 households. The history of Rancho Santa Fe is very interesting, it started in 1836 when a Mexican land grant was issued to Juan Maria Osuna, know as the "First Mayor of the San Diego Area". That land grant was sold in 1906 to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Their main reason for buying the land was to grow Eucalyptus trees for their rails but the wood from the trees turned out to be too brittle. Soon after purchase another purpose for the land came became evident - Golf! The beautiful rolling hills, ideal weather and incredible vistas are perfect for premier golf courses. 
In the years between WWI and WW2 Rancho Santa Fe was "discovered" by Hollywood and had such illustrious residents and developers as Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Bing Crosby. Since the many of the homes are so private there are still a lot of athletes, celebrities, musical artists, international power brokers and entrepreneurs who call Rancho Santa Fe home.
