The Cosmopolitan Hotel - Las Vegas - A Design Explosion

We recently had the pleasure of travelling down to Vegas, and staying at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.  The "Cosmo" only recently opened in December 2010, and is The Cosmopolitan Hotel - Las Vegassituated right smack dab on the main strip, next door to the Bellagio.  Yes, the service was wonderful, yes, the restaurant food was delicious, and yes, the location was perfect.  However, for me, as a designer, the real highlight of this hotel was the interior design.  The Rockwell Group was hired to create a sexy, cool, retro interior, reminiscent of somewhere James Bond might want to hang out at.  It's no coincidence that there is the Vesper Bar, named after a preferred Bond cocktail, and also the Bond Bar.  The theme of glass, crystal and ice was everywhere.  Of course, the crowning glory is the Chandelier Bar.  This "chandelier" is located in the centre of the lobby, and spans three floors vertically.  You can actually sit right inside this giant chandelier and order a cocktail.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel - Las VegasThe hotel is very mod, retro, high tech and elegant all at the same time.  Our hotel room actually felt like a city apartment, with a comfortable sectional, perfect for entertaining our friends, and a vibrant colour scheme of blues, golds and reds, all primary colours, mixed in with glass, shiny mosaics and silver.

The only unusual thing about our hotel room was the bathroom.  Don't get me wrong, it was gorgeous, but there was a window cut out of the wall between the bathroom and the main room.  Anyone washing their hands can be seen through the cutout.  Not a big deal, since the toilet was encased in a water closet.  However, my friend is an early riser, and would shower at 6am!  A cut out in the wall really didn't help deaden the sound of the shower beating down and waking me up.

If you're travelling down to Vegas, and need a place to stay, I would highly recommend the Cosmopolitan Hotel.  It's a sensory explosion, a feast for the eyes, with great restaurants, bars, and signature cocktails.  And remember, tell them Weatherley, Sally Weatherley sent you!

Sally- Almost a little too Ally McBeal... it's so funny that you mentioned this.  We had a Girl's Night Out dinner recently at a restaurant and someone said they had   "cut through" between the Mens and Women's Restrooms where you washed your hands.  People must have complained because when we went the hole had been filled!!

Gesh..I would have waited until you woke up before showering..ha

Kathy - I agree - they also have a restroom like that here at the Opus Hotel.  I find the whole idea a little creepy.

Valerie - After a few cocktails, I actually wanted to swing from one of those Sworski crystal chains!

Fred - Well, let's see, there were 3 levels to the Chandelier bar, and we had to try out each level, so that would make 3 Crantinis in all! That is what makes you a true gentleman, and why you've been married successfully all these years!  Love ya!

Anna - Ok, your next visit to Las Vegas MUST be in January, for the RESA Conference - make it happen!!!!

Sally -- The Cosmopolitan sounds great -- let's lobby to have it named as the future venue for the RESA conference -- you're now officially in charge of that, OK?

I've never been to Vegas...hopefully someday!  The giant shoe reminds me of one I saw recently on Oprah.  Lady Gaga's piano was a giant gold high heel.

I'm loving the vanity, with the scalloped front!  Such fun - how'd my shoe get out there?

Maureen - The Cosmo would be a wonderful destination for the RESA Conference.  The decor certainly fits with our design sensibilities!  Their rates were very reasonable, too...  oh, thanks for putting me in charge of suggesting this!

Shar - Go big or go home, I say!

Sharon - There's a great opportunity to visit Las Vegas - it's called the RESA Conference!!!!!  Come on down!  I don't watch Oprah - will have to google "Lady Gaga's piano stiletto" - sounds very cool.

David - Ok, you're on - let's have a swinging race to the bottom!  I know, isn't that a sexy design?  You'd LOVE the hotel's interior.  I'm just kicking myself I didn't take more photos - the Vesper Bar was amazing, too.

What?  You went there without me? ;-).  The Cosmopolitan is a really cool hotel.  My Sister-in-law and I had a drink in the Chandelier Bar and dinner in the high-end burger place there.  The burger was a little pricey, but it was the best one I've ever had.  Glad you had so much fun there.  We'll have to hit there for a drink next year at the RESA convention!
