Net Migration:

Between the years 2004 and 2008, Texas had net migration of over 500,000 people.   People are moving from California, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and many other places.  Companies continue to relocate as well bringing their employees with them.

Why:

  • No Personal Income Taxes
  • Right to Work State
  • Right sized government with low spending habits
  • Affordable housing
  • Great public schools
  • Overall Great Climate
  • Availability of housing
  • Availability of jobs

The Details:

Taxes- In Texas there are no personal income taxes.  Texas ranks 45th of the 50 States in total tax burden according to the Tax Foundation.   Some people complain about property taxes being high and they are, but then our values are low, so it may even out in the end compared to living in many other states.

Right to Work State- Texas is a Right to Work State....what this means is that a person in Texas cannot be denied employment due to membership or non-membership in a union or other labor organization.  Texas has realtively low union membership compared to most other states.   This helps keep companies competitive and the unemployment rate low.
