Rotary Club of Villa Park Newsletter Spring is in the Air

Announcements: Villa Park Women's League Home Tour - this Sunday- Come see the four spectacular homes including the home of Mark & Jan Schmidt and Rotary District Governor Johrita & Bruce Solari. There will be a salad luncheon and a boutique at the Villa Park City Hall area. The tour starts at City Hall. Villa Park Community Picnic- May 22nd at Irvine Lake- 11AM - 5PM Greg Mills, chair of the event has lots of great new innovations to make this year's picnic a big success. He's shooting for about 800 attendees. Our club will be cooking as usual, but on our grill instead of the park grill. There will be all kinds of contests and games as well as great food. The band Instant Replay will serve as MCs of the event as well as providing great music. They'll be lots of surprises so make sure to get your tickets and invite your friends and neighbors. Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Lobsterfest is on May 13th at the Yorba Linda Civic Center. Pam Dunn handed out the tickets and announced we will have 12 club members and spouses attending. Pam will not be able to attend, but we will dedicate a lobster to her. The tickets entitle the bearer to sit in the VIP catered section. RYLA- We have five students from either Villa Park High or Lutheran High attending the camp. Steven Pollack volunteered to provide transportation to and from the bus pick up site at The Block for those who need it. Jill Kuli will give more details as to exact time and place.
Happy Bucks: Ed Carter is going to be the MC of the Villa Park Parents mixer this Saturday at &PM. Music will be provided by the Villa Park High Jazz Band. Come out and support Ed. Bob Bell is looking for individuals or corporations to help sponsor the wheelchair basketball team that his grandson is involved with. Contact Bob if you wish to help with this worthy cause. Lisa Stepanski was very happy to announce that just as her 6 year warranty on her car was about to expire she got a new transmission at no extra cost. She also binged on chocolate and sugary treats over the Easter weekend and loved every minute of it. Today she is going to pay the piper with a visit to the dentist. She also donated $20 to the club in exchange for a bracelet that she acquired from a trove of jewelry Mark Schmidt donated to the club. Tom Grundy was happy Pam Dunn showed up because she had a guest at the meeting. Teri Brooks announced that Steve & Lainey Stern are running a mega estate sale on May 5th,6th and 7th at a home in Villa Park. Lots of collectibles. Cash Only. The Address: 9541 Henderson Way Time: 9AM- 3PM Eddie Nash- reminded us about the Camp to Belong Fundraiser at Irvine Park on May 21st. Their will be teams competing and breakfast items will be served. Steven Pollack is going to be doing a preliminary 50 mile mountain bike ride to prepare for his Africa trip. He is still accepting donations for the Children of the Wilderness Fund. Craig Beinlich announced that we can now call Steven by his new nickname "lion bait". Jim Brodsky announced that his 10 year old grandson James Brodsky pitched a no-hitter in little league.

Speaker: John Martin President - JMI Commercial Real Estate Operation Turkey Dinner - currently in its 5th Year- Provides Christmas Dinners for the needy in our community. Last year 100 families in Orange received a free Christmas Dinner This year they are hoping to provide 500 dinners. The volunteer group works out of the Ridgeline Country Club in Orange Park Acres. How Can You Help: 1. Donate Funds - checks can be made out to "YMCA Of Orange" and mailed to 10632 Meads Ave., Orange California 2. Volunteer to Help - pick up dinner components from participating markets - assemble meals and/or - deliver dinners 10% delivered directly to homes 90% delivered to churches, YMCA, Salvation Army, etc Dates: Fri. Dec. 17th- 12PM- start picking up materials for meals Sat. Dec. 18th- 8AM- start assembling the meals Sun> Dec. 19th- 7AM- deliver meals The meals include and turkey and all the trimmings plus a broiling pan. John also talked about Camp Oso- a multi-use park in South County and a project along Santiago Canyon Road in the current gravel pits that will include: low density housing, a senior housing project, a YMCA facility with a pool and athletic fields. If all goes well the project will commence next year.
If VPHS Principal Ed Howard reads this John also has tennis nets and large lights to donate to the high school tennis courts. These items are from the tennis club that was located at Ridgeline Country Club.
