In my quest to build strong sustanable referral relationships on a weekly basis, I ventured into the world of contractors/ developers today. I have spent a lot of time over the past year cultivating relationships with real estate agents and financial planners but not contractors. No special reason why I haven't, I just have had luck with other avenues and didn't need to take that step. I think the mark of a good business person is to step back every now and then and figure out where he or she can fill the holes in their respective business. So today I met with a large developer.
Well, it turns out that this developer is also building a real estate side of his business and is looking for a quality mortgage professional that he can recommend to his prospective buyers. Talk about a win win for me. The part owner I met with today is only currently working with one bank that only offers that bank's products. I explained to him how I felt I was in a unique position being a large respected lender that also has broker capabilites. This is important because I could cover all of the necessary mortgage products for his clients.
I do hope that this meeting results in building a strong relationship with this developer. He seemed like a person who knows his business well and is very calculated in every move and conservative with his approach. What I also liked about the meeting is that he was very interested in learning. I meet with a lot of "know it alls", and it's refreshing to sit with a successful person who realizes there is always room for growth.
