Active Rain Member to Member Paid it Forward Got it Back! I was reading Emily Read's piece on The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection late one night on ActiveRain this week and it was moments after she'd made it public. I noticed a misspelled word in her title and thought that the rest of the post was nicely written and I took a moment and thought to myself, "Do I e-mail someone I don't know and let them know that an important part of their post is spelled incorrectly?"....and I decided to send a private e-mail to her.

Emily immediately responded back:

Yikes! Typo!! LOVE YOU!! Thanks Gayle!! :)

We sent a couple more e-mails back and forth and she decided to add me as an associate! All of this took place in a matter of five minutes and took away any angst I felt about putting a spotlight on something someone did "incorrectly".

It took me out of my comfort zone, I helped Emily out and in turn she patted me on the "professional" back!

You know, Gary, I've wanted to do this BEFORE...as I see many misspelled words or bad grammar, etc. but it doesn't feel like it's my place always to do their editing for them. However, with that said, it's as if you've given me the A-OK to proceed as a "friendly advisor", perhaps?

Especially in a title Gayle, that is kind of glaring, and I have found, even when I have done it, it is usually just an oversight as a typo. I will use personal email to just say something you wouldn't want to leave in a comment even with a Member here you haven't struck up that relationship with yet. 90% or more of the people here are extremely professional and like this lovely story that had a happy ending with Emily, you will widen your circle of friends and networking associates here by being the spelling and grammar police or giving someone a thoughtful hint or suggestion. Don't worry we all can use more nudges by friendly advisors out there. I'm glad I have you in my corner and I am sure others will be too.

Gary and Elizabeth--I, too (or three!) agree with Gary, and from now on Scout's Honor, if I see someone with a boo-boo that is "glaring", I will try to let them know!
