Home Inspection in the Nyack Community and Beyond

If you are unclear as to what protection a home inspection provides I will try and clarify in today's blog. An inspection is very similar to an annual checkup at the doctor's office. You want to know how things are going both at the doctor's office and in the house you are about to buy. An inspection can in many cases offer you a wedge in negotiating the sale price depending on what is found.

Many of us have been in the situation where we fall in love with a house, but are wary of the amount of money that will have to be spent to bring it up to our own personal standards. Upper Nyack, Upper Nyack, Piermont, and Grandview all have their share of majestic, Victorian homes that are crying out to be restored to their former beauty. It is your responsibility to recognize what you are willing to do in the restoration process. An inspection will give you a good idea of what you are getting into.

Do not think that a home inspection will tell you everything. If problems or conditions are concealed on purpose or aren't readily apparent the inspector isn't required to be a detective and find them. The standard home inspector's report will cover the condition of the home's heating system; central air conditioning system (interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement and structural components.

It is crucial to find an inspector you trust and feel confident will provide you an accurate evaluation of the property you are looking at. The ASHI will provide you a list of licensed inspectors. Meet with 2 or 3 and choose the one you feel comfortable with. A good inspector will lessen the anxiety and insecurities so often associated with a home purchase.

Yes, those areas really have some majestic homes looking over the Hudson.  Beautiful, but many are old and need repairs.  Updating and repairing older homes is usually harder and more expensive vs. newer homes.  Great advice and definitely bring in an inspector.
