Results of my "link bait" experiment

Services for Real Estate Pros with Hard money lending for investors in NH and MA

Recently it was made clear to me that when I write content and then post the same identical content in multiple places on the web, that Google ignores it.  Even if it is my own original content.   Ooops.

I have a blog on my website, www.buynowhardmoney.com, and would write a post, then post it on AR, and then also post on BiggerPockets.com.  BiggerPockets is dedicated to real estate investing, while AR focuses on real estate agents and brokers.  All my customers are investors, and I'm an investor myself, hence my selections.  But AR gets lots of indexing and traffic, and BP is still coming along.

Anyway, now I had a dilemna I definitely don't have time to write 3 blogs.  So I wrote a blog, and then wrote an intro to it on AR, giving a little info as to my perspective, because on my own blog, most of my customers already know what hard money is before they get there.  On AR, most readers don't know my special niche.  Here is a link to that blog post.

I had some encouragement from a couple of comments, that my "link bait" was enough to get them to go to my website to read the rest of the story.

I checked out Google Analytics for that day and the day after.  Only 6 visitors from Active Rain.  Hmm.  In a two month period, AR is my 7th highest rated referral source.  But that's only 41 visits, and AR visitors stay on my site for the SHORTEST amount of time of all my sources.  And my site is packed full of information.  My top 3 sources are direct (people who find me from local networking and local referrals), Google organic, and google adwords.

I definitely think, though, that my participation in AR gets me better google rankings in general, and that helps my organic rankings.

Anyone have any insight on this that they'd like to share?  Including the "identical content" issue?
