Danville's "Lend a Hand Day"

Town of Danville Lend a Hand Day As I sit down to catch up a bit on Active Rain this afternoon I am starting to feel the reward of a few aches and pains associated with the Town of Danville’s “Lend A Hand Day”. In its seventh year the purpose “provides senior citizens no cost yard clean up and minor home repairs”. This year Stacey & Todd Galde, our coach for the Rookie Yankees, coordinated the event for our team and both deserve a special thanks.

Our day started with a 8:30 practice with the boys before the 9:00 game with the Cubs. After a couple of hours and a complete game in we headed over to the home assigned to our group. This was an elderly couple who just needed a good spring cleaning. The boys, girls and parents put in a few hours of cleaning out the front and back yard and the results were both fantastic and appreciated. We all had a good time, some snacks and pizza, and hopefully gave the young ones a valuable lesson in giving back to the community. After leaving we had a chance to enjoy some goodies at the Cold Stone Creamery in Danville's Livery....yum.

Doug, it sounds like you've had a fun filled and productive day.

We just participated in our annual spring time Clean Sweep here. You buy a ticket and set out anything you want and the city picks it up. No TVs over 48 inches and you pay extra for computer gear and items with freon. Man we loaded up the streetside.

Thanks Tim & Steve. All credit for this goes to the others involved. This was the first year my family participated and we are looking forward to doing so next year. The Town of Danville has done a superb job of organizing this event.

Hi Doug,

This is an awesome event that is held in Danville... I am sure there is a real need to help others that can't get out and do things themselves. It's great to hear about the team effort that Danville has!

We have something like this too... All the local Churchs in the area go out for a Spring Clean... to clean up all the local parks. It has been going on for a few years and there is always hundreds of volunteers. It will be happening in a couple of weeks..., and I am looking forward to participating again this year!!! Nice Post and great that you were able to give back! I am suggesting this post! I also re-blogged it to.
