A Giant Hello to MAY!

By

I discovered this beauty today while working in my yard in Bentonville, Arkansas. Yes! My bargain cottage has a fantastic, huge and well planted mature yard. This was quite a sight. This iris is about 3.5 feet tall and growing up inside a shrub I have not identified yet.

If I may gloat just a little (oh please let me..please!). There are 4 lilacs in my yard, three are purple and one is white. There is a huge ancient looking redbud tree, there are about a dozen large peonies, a pink dogwood, a white dogwood, irises and lilies galore. Add to that a few plants we cannot yet identify.

I'll just consider this a GIANT HELLO TO MAY! Life is good!

Tish, thank you. I love to get out in the yard.

Diane, I have never been able to enjoy a yard like this one because of DEER! My cottage is a second home in a more urban sstting. NO DEER!

Roger, thank you sir. Life is good.

Marilyn, Wonderful! I hope we see you this summer.

Jane, thank you. May is a fantastic month to be in Arkansas.

4 lilacs?  I want your yard!  They are my favorite plant of all time -- we had 2 next to the back door of the home I grew up in.  They were as tall as the house and when the windows were open (no central a/c in that house!) their scent filled the house.  One of my favorite memories.  Happy May Day!

Nice! I'm glad you shared your garden with us. Lilacs don't flourish--they grow, but not spectacularly--here in this mild-climate part of California. I'm with Cinnamon--lilac scent is the best. Happy May Day to you.

I have a couple of lilac shrubs and they are beautiful right now, but a white one?  I have lavender and deep purple and I would love if you posted a picture of the white lilac.

It's so nice when you get these great suprises of beauty! The white of this iris just pops! The leaves on the scrub look kinda like a geranium variety. Let us know when you learn what it is. I love the thrill of learning a new plant!

Go ahead and gloat...and enjoy finding all the beautiful surprises in your yard. We have a lot of irises here, but they're not in bloom yet. I absolutely love lilacs. My favorite bush in the world and can you believe it, I don't even have one on our property. I really have to do something about that! Enjoy your gardens, Charles!

Nina, thank you for being here.

Cindy, it is nice. I love seeing all the colorful blossoms.

Liz, they have already bloomed and gone by. Next time!

Lottie, in this part of the world my favorite is the lilac, further south my favorite is Jasmine.
