Blogging IdeasToday is the first day of the 31 Days of May Challenge, and I'm sure that it will not be difficult for most of us to come up with writing ideas for the next week or so of posting.  But what happens after our good ideas seem to dry up, and we think we don't have anything else to write about (commonly referred to as 'writer's block')?   Last week I posted about how I keep a running list as ideas come to me, and I have to write them down immediately because my old brain loses the thought before I get up from my chair.

You can find lists everywhere for 'memory joggers.'  As I prepared for my first Challenge, I didn't write blogs, but I added a lot of things to my ongoing list of what I could write about when nothing else comes to mind.  Many of these are geared toward the ActiveRain crowd in a spirit of sharing what we've learned or what works for us in OUR business.  Most of the ones on my list are specific, but I am going to try to make them generalized here to give you a list of 50 things to help get your creative juices flowing.  WRITE ON . . .

  1. A great 'tool' that you use for your business
  2. A local college and how it impacts life around it
  3. A story that you tell out-of-town visitors
  4. A common line that you use when showing a house
  5. What Contact Management System do you use and do you/do you not like it?
  6. Tell about a bad/good listing experience
  7. Tell about a bad/good buying experience
  8. Tell about an unusual/famous real estate client
  9. Tell about your niche/specialty market
  10. What one thing do you want to learn in the next month? How are you going to learn it?
  11. Announce a local promotion or sale
  12. How do you handle final walk-throughs with a client? Do you use a checklist?
  13. Tell about a Realtor who should look for a new job
  14. Favorite childhood memory
  15. Who founded your City and what makes it a place we'd want to visit?
  16. Write about how real estate has changed since you started
  17. What new gadgets have you discovered in homes that you've shown that we should know about?
  18. What prompted you to get your real estate license?
  19. Write something about a community in your City
  20. Do you have a local attraction that you take visitors to?
  21. Interview the owner of your favorite store and take pictures/video (send them a copy)
  22. Who is your competition?
  23. Explain different areas of real estate: What is an escrow account? What are closing costs?
  24. What was your favorite house that you lived in and why?
  25. What did you do before you became a Realtor/Inspector/Stager/Mortgage Lender/SEO expert?
  26. Write about an un-cooperative Realtor
  27. Where do you like to write and why?
  28. Tell about a family tradition
  29. Strange things that you love (I loved hurricanes as a child)
  30. A story about 'talking someone down from a ledge' to calm them when they were desperate
  31. A famous person who lives in your town
  32. What do you do differently than your competition? Make a list
  33. Set a goal to get one video done - plan it out
  34. Recent 'aha' moment
  35. Do you work FSBOs?  Do you have success with them?
  36. Do you work Expireds?  Do you have success with them?
  37. How do you help your Clients get their home ready for sale?
  38. Make a list of 5 (10, 15) things that you love about your City
  39. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
  40. Besides referrals, where does most of your business come from?
  41. What deal do you remember that makes you proud (or sad, or embarrassed) when you remember it?
  42. On the last deal that you lost, what could you have done differently?
  43. Write about an historic building in your area
  44. How do you spend your summers? Does it make you work differently?
  45. Walk through your neighborhood/City and take a picture.  Write about the picture.
  46. When you are not working, what is your hobby?
  47. The famous: What is a great closing gift and why?
  48. Is your Downtown area thriving or dying?
  49. Have you read a good book lately? Write a review
  50. A list of things NOT to do when trying to sell your house

These should be enough to get you started on a few posts.  Do YOU have ideas to add to this list, or a list of your own to share? As people post new ideas (and my memory is jogged by other's comments) I will add the new ideas to the end of this post, so Bookmark and check back if this is something of interest.

  1. What were they THINKING?
  2. Write about a fun local activity. Take pictures during the activity. Do a follow up with pictures.

Mimi

Thanks for the ideas.  I decided to accept the 31 day challenge, as I am a newbie to blogging.  I figured it would force me to let go of my anxiety.  I'm day 3 and feeling good!  Thanks again

Ideas do seem to be everywhere - but if I don't write them down the minute they slide past my brain, they're gone. I have little notes all over the house.

Mimi, great list. I know that I burned out after the last 30 day challenge & don't want to do it again. I did go in spurts where I would write 5 things at a time & then nothing.  I think that if we write about what 'just happens' everyday around us we get great info.  I sat around the other day & said I don't have anything to write about but then I thought 'what about all those terrible houses you showed today?' Bingo, post about a rabbit corral.

Oh, Denise - if you didn't start on the first of May, it's too late to get involved with this particular challenge.  I'm so sorry.  BUT don't let that slow you down from getting going on regular blogging.  It will be good for you - and for us!

Wonderful suggestions.  Some of these ideas have come to mind but I needed validation that they weren't too silly or fluffy   : ).    I'll keep your list handy.  Hope business is picking up in Colorado Springs and I hope we have had our last snowfall in Spokane.
