Honoring Gold Star Mothers in New Hampshire

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

Do you know who the Gold Star Mothers are?  Up until today, I had not heard of them.  I've been very blessed in life, not to be in their position.

Gold Star Mothers are women whose sons and daughters died while serving in the armed forces.  These are mothers who have paid the ultimate price...mothers whose children made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Today, May 1, 2011, in Manchester, NH, the Gold Star Mothers Memorial Statue was dedicated to these women.

Mayor Ted Gatsas declared May 1 to be Gold Star Mothers day in Manchester.

Governor John Lynch declared May 1 to be Gold Star Mothers Day in New Hampshire.

I think EVERY DAY should be Gold Star Mothers Day in all our hearts.

Throughout the presentation today speakers asked that we spread the word and let others know about the Gold Star Mothers Memorial.  They can use all the support they can get.

So, how did I come to be at this ceremony today?

That's a whole other post, and I'll save that for tomorrow...

Sharon, We should honor the living as well as those who die. And no greater loss is that of a child!

Sharon,

Gold Star Mothers have earned that memorial with the greatest sacrifice imaginable.  The pain from their loss can never be undone.

Sharon, I wasn't aware of the Gold Star Mothers.  I would love to see a memorial in our local park.

I can't agree more with you, Sharon. They are in our hearts. I can't even imaging how much pain it is to loose the child, even for the country....

Sharon- I was not aware of this group but with Mother's Day around the corner this is a good time to call attention to the mothers who, in their own way, have served.

Hi Sharon--I have been MIA for the past week.  I LOVE your new blog look. Very pretty and very appropriate for a stager!  Really nice localism post too.  The families of our service people truly sacrifice.  It is wonderful that they are starting to get the thanks and recognition they deserve!

Sharon, Now here is a group wirth comemerating. In so many ways this is a sacrifice bigger than any other. Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground.

Ellen:  The ones left behind are in so much pain.  I can't imagine any greater pain than losing a child.

Laura:  Thank you.  That's what I'm trying to do too.

Lloyd:  Well said!

Chris:  I am so glad I attended, it was quite the emotional experience.  It would be wonderful if there were more of these memorials.

Anna:  You have first hand experience with being away from your child and how painful that was, but to lose them forever...how do they survivie it?

Kathy:  And now to hear that Osama Bin Laden is dead...on the day celebrating the mothers of those who serve to protect us from such monsters...how appropriate!  A Gold Star Mother's Day gift!

Pat:  Thank you!  It was time for a fresh look!  I recently updated my website and I wanted to be consistent with the branding.  I agree, our service families deserve all the recognition we can give them!

Alexandra:  I didn't know about the group either.  I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to spread the word about them.

Peter:  Wow!  "Cost of freedom buried in the ground."  That gives me chills.

Good Morning Sharon,

Missed this one altogether. I'll bet the ceremony was quite moving. I had not heard of Gold Star Mothers so I thank you for highlighting this.

Sharon, unfortunately we also have a similar group of Mothers in Canada. These Mothers should be honored. It's not a 'club' anyone would ever wish to join.

John:  Even though I had not heard of them, I'm really surprised how many others are hearing of them for the first time.  I guess that goes to show why the speakers yesterday asked that we inform others.  They deserve to be recognized.

Shar:  It just gives me chills to think about it.  I can only imagine the feelings stirred in the hearts of these women hearing this news.

Janice:  Not a club you would wish to join, but surely a club you are grateful for if this horrible loss happens to you.
