Where do you talk on your cellphone?

By

There are many places that using the cell phone is acceptable and many times expected.

Lets talk about some areas talking on a cell phone is a big NO NO.i phone

  • In church. You don't need a cell phone to talk to God so don't bring it in.
  • At a funeral. This is not respectful so don't bring it in.
  • At a nice restaurant. Give your undivided attention to the one you are with and respect the other diners that are spending their money for a special meal.
  • Your child's sporting event. They grow so fast give them your time and attention.
  • Theaters. Very annoying when you get to the best part in the movie and someone starts talking on their phone.
  • In bed. Guys you wont be invited back if you even hesitate whether you should answer or not.
  • In the public bathroom. Ladies this is for you. I wonder why I go into the public bathroom and ASSUME that when I step into the stall I am having a little bit of privacy. Never fails I hear someone in the next stall talking on their cell phone and doing their business. What makes them think the person on the other end wants to share this with them! I know I don't like the idea of sharing my privacy with an unknown person on the other end of a phone call!
  • While your driving. Everyone thinks they drive safely while they are talking on the phone but statistics prove that wrong.
  • While you are on an appointment. Let your potential client have your undivided attention. A matter of respect.

When you reach for the phone to answer or call someone think about where you are and who you may disturb.

At least there is not a line attached to the modern phone, how annoying would that be!

"In the public bathroom."

GROSS!!!  That is just disgusting so don't even get me started on how incredibly unprofessional it is too!  The last one kind of irritates me.  Just this week, I was meeting with someone new and taking an app and some unresticted caller called me three times one right after another and never left a message.  AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

The new client I was with kept asking me if I wanted to get that (I had it on vibrate next to me) and simply told them that I don't take calls during clients appts because I like to give my undivided attention to the person in front of me.  Hopefully, he appreciated it.

Myers,

Yes somebody might trip over it! :-)

Donne,

The bathroom thing happened to me Thursday and I was so angry that another person was so thoughtless to carry on a conversion in the BATHROOM!  Your client will appreciate it, you may not know of it but I am sure he walked away thinking you were the professional.

Nona- I think the guys need to be aware of the "not in a restroom" rule just as bad as ladies do!  I have been on the phone with a man and heard flushing going on, as well as seen men exiting restrooms with phone to ear.  Just don't!

Patty,

That was funny! Thanks for sharing.

Jennifer, I am sure the guys do it also BUT I just hadn't been in the mens bathroom to know :-)

Debbie, Thanks.

I totally agree, Nona.  And when I see people sitting throughout dinner on their phones with the kids playing games on them, I want to scream.

Nona on Monday a driver ran a red light while talking on the phone and crashed into my daugher's car in the middle of a major intersection (University Blvd...the name itself should give you some idea of the traffic).

I do drive while talking, if I have to. But neverin schools zones. I usually pull into the driveway and talk....much better that way. I can concentrate more.  WELL....

That was when my iPhone was working... now it is messed up and I am still dealing with that.

I got a $160 ticket because I picked up a call while driving last week. My bluetooth was broken, and it was a bank negotiator calling so I felt it necessary to pick up. Rather important call, but even bigger lesson. I won't do it again!

Mens' room:  I often find myself thinking "do I stand here & wait to flush"?  Sure, I did then wonder who was being rude to who.

Driving: Julie, it's too bad you got pulled over, but there are so many I see, and I'd wish they'd get pulled over.  It's not unusual for me to be speaking to someone and they'll say "I'm driving", and it's very normal to respond "Can we speak when you are better able to speak with me?"

Business Meetings: No matter how creative the manager or luncheon speaker will ask people to turn off phones....people will pick up, and start the conversation.  Usually, in those cases, they leave the room.

Nona - I agree. There is the right place and the right time. But all the places you mention are a no no. It disgusts me when I hear it in the bathroom.

Julie,

Sorry to hear about the ticket. My daughter lives in Seattle right now and she told me when I was visiting not to talk on the cellphone. Ouch that ticket hurts.

Claude and Ken,

I agree with you both. The restrooms should be off cell phone limits. REALLY.

I agree with you that people have really forgotten that there are some places where your cell phone is just not necessary.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
