Life is ironic, isn't it.?! I can't tell you how many late nights I have spent in my self-assigned role of Santa, Easter Bunny and even Leprechaun quietly creeping around in the dark and cold thinking "I can't wait until I don't have to do this anymore..."
Well, now, I officially don't have to.
Our youngest, now nine years old, came to me with a box she found in a hidden place that clearly had held Easter goodies at one time. "Mom! Tell me the truth....are you the Easter Bunny?!"
I tried to lie but she clearly meant business as her bright blue eyes pierced my soul and before I knew it I had broken her heart with the truth. Her older brothers and sister gathered around offering hugs and reassurances while she stoically tried to keep her tears from falling.
It is a moment I know has to come in every child's life, but maybe because this was our last "baby", it was particularly heartwrenching, even though I knew she would live through it and be okay.
Somehow ....I have a feeling that the Easter Bunny and Santa will still be coming around anyway.
Hi Brenda, You are back, miss you. You mean there is no Santa, bummer, do not tell me grand children, I could not handle all the crying. Have a good day.
Oh no! That's sad! Our new neighbor moved in a week ago (he is the same age as mine, 4) and I asked him if the Easter Bunny found him. He loudly tells me there is no such thing as a Big Rabbit brining candy and that it's made up. I was horrified...for MY kids! If they heard him, they ignored it and I quickly changed the subject. As a mom we want to hold on to those moments as long as possible!
Now that the youngest knows, you really under more pressure because they know its you and they expect you to keep up the hardwork.
Brenda, I've been missing your posts and am thrilled to see you back. And from knowing you, I think it was harder on you than on your daughter. Hope you have a wonderful week.
Hi Brenda - You bet Santa and the Easter Bunny will be back. I happen to know that along with the Great Pumpkin, the Tooth Fairy, Cupid and that whole crowd of characters, will continue to come back for a long time to come. Won't they.......? You wouldn't kid me, would you? Gee I hope not......
Hi Will, I won't say a word - the secret is safe with me!
Hello, Shannon - Geez, if his parents don't want to play along, that's fine, but they could at least teach him to humor everyone else! Hopefully you've got a few more years to keep it going....,
Larry - Your comment made me laugh because it is oh so true!
Hello, Gary! Thanks! You are always so supportive and I appreciate it!
Steve, Steve, Steve - Of course they will.... though they might cut me some slack if I sleep in a little later!
