QR Code:  How I Used at Open House

I have been having a terrible time trying to figure out uses for QR Codes (besides putting them on flyers and sign riders).  So yesterday, I had this bright idea and this is what I did.

Open House Sign In CardI created sign in cards by using Avery 28877 Perforated Business Cards and created individual sign-in cards.

On the flip side, I printed instructions on how to download a QR Code Reader

After they filled out the card and downloaded the QR Code Reader, the gave the sign in card back to me.

And then I gave them the Special One Day Sale QR Code to scan

NOTE:  Asking if they are working with an agent always seems like a trick question, so I asked for their agent's name instead.  I either got the agent's name OR N/A.

I usually don't have a lot of success getting people to sign in at open houses on sign in sheets (mostlyQR Code Reader Instructions because of privacy issues I guess).  But this worked perfectly for several reasons:

  1. People did not have to be concerned about other visitors viewing their personal information
  2. They got someting in return (QR Codes offering the chance to purchase the home at a special price)
  3. They learned about QR Codes and will now recognize them when they see them and be able to scan them.

Test QR CodeI created a QR Code to a SPECIAL Postlets Webpage to reveal the QR Code (the QR Code on the left is not the one I used).  Although I did not get an offer, visitors have until 5:00 to purchase at special price.  And for the first time, everyone who visited the open house signed in.

Another good way to use QR Codes at Open Houses is for Giveaways.  You can give away

Prizes (i.e. $5 Starbucks Card, etc)
Have QR Code drawing (put codes in fishbowl)
                Offer FREE Home Warranties
                The possibilities are endless

NOTE:  I had downloaded several QR Code Readers, but ScanLife was the first that I have downloaded that works like a charm.  I highly recommend it.

Thank you Linda.

Gene that darn sign in sheet has been a source of contention for me.  I'm glad to be rid of it.

Thanks Carrie.

Thansk Jamie but I'm just wondering why you use stickers on the brochures instead of printing the codes on the brochures.

Elizabeth don't forget to blog about your experience with the cards (particularly if you find that there is a difference between using regular sign in sheets and the cards).

Will do!  I really think between the cards themselves vs. sign-in sheet and the Agent's name that you've reduced two "trick questions", lol.

Great post, and thanks for inspiring us all to go outside the box.  I had two open houses this weekend, and on Sunday one visitor signed her name but no address, phone or e-mail.  The second visitor saw what the first visitor did and did the same, so I got no info.

I like the card idea and the code of course.

Thanks again.

Thanks Virginia.  I was really surprised how well the sign in "cards" worked and the curiosity about the QR Codes.  I think it's a winner.

Melissa I am hoping that by mentioning it in the comments of the challenge post that I will be entered.

Thanks Chris.  Again I cannot emphasize enough how many code readers I had tried before finding the ScanLife Reader.  Hope you are able to implement these ideas and that they work for you as well.

I like this idea Charita.  I definitely agree with the idea of the perforated business cards as sign-in sheets.

Charita,

Novel use of QR codes!  By sharing your sign in card idea and the QR code special offer, you not only provide a tangible solution to the tricky sign-in sheet, but you also make the use of QR technology accessible.  Thanks for educating not only the buyers on QR codes, but also the industry.

Karl the sign-in sheet has always been a little tricky.  People want something in return and an incentive.  The QR Code seemed to kill to birds with one stone.
