Up, Up and GO AWAY with Open House Balloons

I mean really; Open House Balloons?  Its bad enough that the entire Auto Dealership world uses them every day but Christmas.  Does anyone honestly believe that colored balloons hanging from anything grounded is going to bring in business?  Has any Psychologist conducted research in the last 5 years that definitively links "balloons" to "purchasing"?  I just don't get it!

I was actually told by a Broker that a certain Real Estate Brokerage Firm actually took the time to determine that each Open House Sign and Directional Arrow Sign should have 2 balloons each... NOT 3, NOT 4, NOT 1, but 2!  If a potential homebuyer is zooming past an Open House sign at 75 miles-per-hour, will it really matter?

  • AND, when it rains the balloons end up lying on the ground all exhausted?
  • OR, when the wind whips them into the atmosphere and causes havoc with birds?

I am also confused with the amount of man-hours (or woman-hours) required to acquire the balloons, fill them with helium, tie the end closed, attach string (I mean ribbon) to each of them, put them in your car, untangle the damn ribbon when you go to get them out of your car and finally attach them to an Open House sign.

Are our neighborhoods to cluttered with signs and distractions that it takes balloons to attract attention?

I honestly have not witnessed a difference in traffic from Open Houses WITH balloons versus an Open House WITHOUT balloons.

So in closing I ask; Do Homebuyers really need an array of colored balloons to get them to buy a house?

If only we could break down a reliable figure for exactly what it is that does draw people!  I guess many people are willing to try every avenue to help.

I personally don't use balloons on my open house signs, but I know when I'm driving down the street and see balloons attached to a sign, it does draw my eyes to the sign and makes them more visible.
