It's All About Timing

I have lived in Plano, Texas for the last 15 years and have been in the North Texas area for most of the last 30 years. I was working in the yard yesterday afternoon with Toots - my half pointer, half pit bull, all play, 4-legged daughter. She loves working in the yard with me, but it often creates more work than if she were inside, but then that wouldn't be any fun.

It had been raining and storming overnight and half the morning so I didn't go out to work until late in the afternoon to give things a little time to dry out. Spring is when we get most of our rain for the year. After a couple of hours, I finished and went in the house. I had no sooner removed my jacket and cleaned Tootsie's feet than the skies opened up. It rained from that moment through the whole night and most of the day today. My timing couldn't have been better.

That got me to thinking about timing in business. What is right time to contact a prospect? One thing is for sure, if I don't contact them, I'll never know when the right time is and they will never be a client. But if I make the call or stop in, I have a chance. It may not be a high chance, but it's way higher than the zero chance I would otherwise have. Sure, I have to catch them when they sense the need for my services as a tenant representative. But maybe I'll get an idea of when their lease will expire and can call them back at a more appropriate time.

I don't know what you sell and when your clients will need you, but be there for them when they need you. Don't hide behind a desk or a phone waiting for someone to walki into the door or call you. You probably are very good at what you do and would be a huge blessing to someone in need of your expertise. Don't let them down just because 10 or 20 or 100 other people didn't happen to need it at that moment. I'm talking to myself here more than I'm talking to you, I can assure you of that.

So here are some videos that can help with motivation. Watch these before making those calls or walking in those doors.
