handwriting fontsI just read a post by Jeff Turner a few minutes ago. While Jeff's writing is always good, the thing that really caught my eye was a graphic he created. (Digital photography and art is just one of Jeff's many talents.)

Anyway, Jeff had a graphic that had some printing on it and it really caught my eye, because it wasn't your standard "Times New Roman" or "Arial" font. Isn't everyone sick of reading the same old fonts day after day? (Like this blog-- "Arial"-- yuck.)

Jeff's font just looked like really cool handwriting. The picture of "Tom's Handwriting" above, is a messy version of a handwriting font, but you get the point.

Now, "handwriting fonts" are no big deal in and of themselves; they've been around for a while. I'm sure many of you have been tricked into opening junk mail because the front of the envelope appreared to be "hand addressed." In fact, a couple of years ago, I sent out about 5,000 letters to people that "needed to refinance" and I used a handwriting font on the front of the envelopes. I swear, all of the other mortgage brokers in Arizona stole my idea after that, but that's another story...

It was pretty effective and a neat experiment in direct mail technique. I had a much larger percentage of call-backs and sales conversions. If you would like to try using handwriting fonts for the purpose of marketing (or whatever), I would suggest Googling "free handwriting fonts" or maybe checking out this page:

http://www.free-fonts.com/handwriting_fonts.html

But I wanted to share a pretty neat custom font service with ActiveRainers. I think this is just super neat and super cheap at only-- get this-- Nine Bucks! ($9.00 US) This is really the way to go as far as handwriting fonts go-- your very own!

Visit Fontifier.com right now. (No, I have no business interest and I don't think they could afford to pay a commission for only $9 per customer.)

1. Print out the Fontifier template sheet.

2. Write all of your characters on the template.

3. Scan the template and upload it.

4. Preview your font online and buy it for only $9.00!

5. Now download your font, put it in your "fonts" folder and it will be ready for use by Microsoft Word (or any other program). Your very own handwriting as a choice in your fonts pull-down menu!

If you are like me and send out 1000 holiday cards every year, this makes your cards look so much more personal than "Times New Roman" and a postage meter.

Oh yeah-- regarding postage meters-- I would combine your personalized handwriting font with a genuine, old-fashioned stamp as well. Makes all the difference in the world when seperating junk mail from the good stuff.

Good luck!

Great Idea Karen!  I especially like the letters in a handwritten font.  I look for pen indentations from now on though.  I wonder when someone will find a way to duplicate those.

Karen, can I adopt you?

I adore handwriting fonts and never got my own handwriting done because of the cost.  I think I can splurge at 9 bucks.  Thank you!

Now I need to go read your last post.  Outlook caught my eye.  I'm there.

Karen, It seems to be the thing to do these days...ie. use a handwriting font on the front of business envelopes. I just received my monthly banking statement from my bank and it was in an envelope that looked like it had been handwritten...my first thought was 'hmm...why is my bank sending me an envelope in messy handwriting'...

now you've solved the puzzle.

Karen, now if I just liked my handwriting.  Hmmm maybe I could use my daughter's, she is a graphic artist and her handwriting is beatiful that is when she uses it.  She has decided that a mark can be your signature so has some kind of a mark that she uses for her name.

Hi Karen - what a great tip this is!  This should be fun experimenting with!  I get bored with the same old same old all the time just like you - this should jazz things up a bit.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the information on being able to now have your own handwriting as a font. I've known about the other for some time, as I too have used it on envelopes.

Karen, this is wonderful. Thank you! I went to both websites and saved them to my 'Favorites.' I also told my 13 year old daughter about it (for her) and she wants to do it too. I'm sure all of her friends will wonder how she did it :)

Karen-Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas.  Truthfully my handwriting isn't the greatest.  I'm considering using one of these more legible handwriting fonts. I don't want people to get that, "huh" kind of look.  Thanks again!

I think I will go for it...or have my best friend do it...her handwriting is so elegant, mine is really unique.....BTW, Karen, how do you do a signature like Linda Cataldo has in the comment above me? Gosh, I want one of those!!!!

KAREN:  Thanks for this tip.  I love the idea of handwritten notes, but they take an awfully long time to do a lot of them.  If you're going to use this font, you must absolutely do as you say and use a real stamp, otherwise you may as well use a type font.

Karen,

Thank you! I'm so glad that I found your blog because you have to have the biggest heart and are one of the most generous people I've met/not met. You are always giving away information to all of us and to be honest I'd like to think that YOU have helped my business grow with some of the blogs I've read. Maybe not right this second but you've helped me make some changes to certain aspects and over time that will pay big dividends to me. So THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

You are the greatest!

Karen, I am pretty new to AR.

http://activerain.com/blogsview/234667/New-to-the-ActiveRain

In the past, I have downloaded many free fonts, but never found a great hand writing one like this. So thank you for sharing. I hope you don't mind I sent my intro link so if you want to can find out who's sending you replies.  I got the font from my logo on line. I like the shape but had issues with the spacing. Thanks! Beate
