Yes, I Remember....like it was yesterday.

On September 11, 2001, I was working as at Eastside Animal Clinic in Naples, Florida.  I remember Dr. J's wife calling to tell us about a plane crashing into the World Trade Center.  I remember the second phone call to tell us about a second plane crashing into the second tower, and the fear of a terrorist attack.  I remember the third call where I was asked to interrupt the Dr. in Surgery because a plane had just crashed into the Pentagon where his brother had an office.  I remember Dr. J closing the hospital down and sending us all home to be with our families.  I remember calling my mom in North Carolina and then my husband and then my sister, my dad, my best friend.  I remember walking through the door of our little apartment to find my husband staring silently at the Television.  We sat there, hand in hand, for hours....watching, trying to understand what was happening.  I remember the heroes who risked their lives to save a few others, and I remember the many lives that were lost that day.

When I awoke this morning, I grabbed a cup of coffee and hit the computer where I logged in to Activerain to find a post by Joe Kenny, "Osama Bin Laden is dead".  He is dead, they finally got him?  And I immediately called my mom, my husband, my sister...and I remembered that day almost 10 years ago, like it was yesterday.

When I dropped my baby off at school this morning, I remembered the thirteen year old daughter of a coworker who was afraid to go to school for weeks after the 9/11 attacks, due to Bomb threats & Anthrax scares, and I remember the mother who was also afraid.

When I arrived at the office this morning and saw the American flags lining the walkway, I remembered driving through neighborhoods and around town and seeing American Flags EVERYWHERE,  and I remember sensing the Pride that filled the air along with fear and sadness.

As I saw a friend who has been acting as a single mom because her husband, who serves in the Marine Corp, has been overseas for months now, I remembered the Men and Women who fight for us and our freedom everyday.  The men and women who risk their lives, the men and women who are at home alone praying & hoping that their loved ones make it home safely.

Do I Remember?  Yes, I Remember....Like it was yesterday.

God bless America and All of Our Heroes!

I lost a friend that fateful day, and many of my neighbors had lost family members too. The Air Force jets patrolling the skies flew over my house and circled every 20 minutes or so. It was a very surreal day/ week/ month. The world was changed that day, and so was I. It's a day I'll never forget and...

Craig - As scary as it was living in Florida, I can't even imagine what it must have been like in New York.  So sorry about the loss of your friend that day, and the many others who were taken in the attack.

We were stationed overseas in Italy, my mother-in-law was visting and we where on vacation. Had been sight seeing when we returned to the little townwe where staying the young man from the hotel chased us down to tell my husband that he needed to call the base asap . . . took us awhile to figure out what was going on.

I remember it as though it was yesterday. I know that OBL death is not the end of terror but there is some sort of closure...

I remember...it's a day that we thought would define us.  I prefer to think of finding and killing the mastermind of this horrific act is really what defines us.
