Video Update on San Diego Landslide

By
Industry Observer with Retired

This is an up to date Video from late this morning and as you will see , city officials are clearing the area and allowing 75 home owners in the area to return to their homes. 9 homes were red tagged ,deemed not suitable for habitation. There were 27 other homes that were yellow taged. It is believed they can be salvaged and restored. Once they are secured , then the homeowners there can also return. The ground on the hillside involved in yesterdays slide is said to be "at rest" by a Geologist. Whatever the cause of the slide, investigators will continue their probing and the area is being carefully monitored for any change that might take place.

Wow!  This looks pretty scary.  Makes you wonder how solid the ground really is.

Will, we've been watching with our usual So Cal interest. Know the area, and the uncertainty that quakes, slides and sudden surprises brings. Thanks again for your great comments with us... and am coming out of the crud to work for first time in a week today. It was a gift that our 8th grader brought home from school.

cheers

Thanks for the update William.  It still seems so incredible & almost unbelievable...the ground simply splitting open the way it did.  Thankfully, more damage was not done and some homeowners can return to their homes.

Hello Tracy, The things that we don't know can hurt us, as is evidenced by this land slide. In breaking news this evening, it appears the attorneys  representing one homeowner believe that the evidence points to the city. It will take months and many years for us to know for certain if this event was a natural occurrence or something caused it that might have been averted.

Hi Marlene, How are you? Thanks so much for dropping by. It is a real mess as you can gather and it doesn't sound like it will get better anytime soon. trading one mess for the legal mess that is sure to follow.

Hi Lola, thank you for your note and it is quite devastating for those that live up there. These things happen but from what I am hearing, there may have been a lot of excess water that played in the slide and it might have been so old water lines that simply leaked because of the old infrastructure. The investigation will answer the questions but it will take a long time to get to the bottom of it.

William, this is one of those Southern California tragedies that seem inexplicable.  There are so many unstable areas where homes have been built but in the battle with mother nature, I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before she wins...whether it is landslides, floods, fires, hurricanes or in our case, extreme drought.
