Free Water Day!

Rainy days can be so gloomy, and they often make me want to sleep! Here in Licking County (Ohio), we had entirely too much rain in April, the news reports that we had just 6 dry days! My mother in law said there are ducks living in the "pond" at her church. I've seen quite a few pop up ponds around here lately, and it's easy to complain about too much rain.

My sister in law in Mich. posted on Facebook the other day that it was "Free Water Day". What a wonderful attitude to have about a rainy day! Why not get a rain barrel and collect the rain water? Save it for a non-rainy day, it won't be long before we are praying for rain.

Whenever I end up showing houses on a rainy day, buyers will often apologize for dragging me out on such a dreary day. I tell them it's no problem! In fact, a rainy day is a great time to look at homes, what better time to check for leaks? I even purchased a moisture meter that I can bring along, so if something looks discolored we can check to see if it's actually wetter than other walls.

As part of my preparation for showing homes, I visit the Licking County Auditor website and look at the flood zone map of the area. Flood insurance can be expensive and what a nasty surprise right before closing! With so many foreclosed properties on the market, it's not always possible to get information from the previous owner.
