The Power Of Slow

By

Slow TurtleIn today's world of Zoom Zoom with the internet and smart phones and texting and high speed connectivity in hot spots and motel lobbies it seems like EVERYTHING is rush rush with 24 hour TV news channels and demanding clients and family ALWAYS in touch across the country. But conversely think about

     The Power Of Slow.

I don't mean that Bahamas vacation necessarily you have been meaning to take. Just little breaks in your day to gather your thoughts and plan carefully next steps. Don't jump in your vehicle and tear out of the parking lot. PAUSE. Think carefully about what you did and where you are going.

Craft 30 minute breaks in coffee shops to handle some administrative stuff on your laptop or smartphone and return a few emails. Maybe brighten someone ELSE'S day with a FUN happy email to them with some kind of warmth or passing on a smile. The email or text might arrive in the InBox or on their phone right when they are stressing out for the day and your smile MAKES their day. Do you know the turtle or tortoise is one of the longest living creatures on earth with their SLOW metabolism? The Redwood trees growing slowly last for centuries. There is SOMETHING to this slowness. Don't knock it.

BREAK for slow drivers. YOU be one yourself from time to time.

Gary, That is good advice! Sometimes it is much better to take that minute and fully prepare ourselves prior to rushing into a situation!

OK Mr ZOOM ZOOM shall I remind you of your words in BOLD below for YOU most of all. Hey Doc Woltal I think you need to be following your own great advice. After all didn't you tell me you are planning on living to be 105. Can't do that driving so fast you get tickets and blow your tires out hitting curbs. Smile

BREAK for slow drivers.

YOU be one yourself from time to time.

I adhere to this advice...and take a 20 minute nap sometime during the day; the flexibility of being a REALTOR allows for that I have found!

Thanks for the reminder Gary. The first half of my week everything is full blast and full speed. I do treat myself to breaks. My colleagues and I stop at 4pm everyday for a 30 minute conversation break to talk and encourage each other over coffee or tea.

Robert: Thanks for your text. Made me smile for my day.

Patricia Aulson: I would think rural New England and New Hampshire in particular might let us know that there is something to the country way of life. It really can be just a mindset to shift into I would think.

Carol: I like the recharge theme you have their with the battery. We can't go 100 mph non stop. That is just plain crazy plus as you pointed out you will hit burn out and just give up.

Pat Kennedy: I have heard that about the slow metabolism and the longevity. Maybe we should all have real slow heart beats or hibernate or something. We might live 400 years!!

Diane: I think the rushing pattern happens and we don't think to slow down if not STOP and breathe just a little. It really is good for us.

Tony and Darcy: I think slow time is good prep time I agree.

Elisa: Ha Ha, I have modified my lead foot driving habits and have been a good boy with my driving lately. It's those darn speed traps that get me every time I find an unfamiliar road. I think I am a speed trap magnet. No more bumping into curbs lately so that is good. Slow can save you money.

Cindy in Indy: That resting the body and eyes I bet is good for you. What do the Mexicans call it? A siesta? Good for you Cindy.

Mike: I like your 4 pm ideas now and then. I do something similar during my days and week.

William Feela: Slowness gets us ready when the speed picks up again.

Gary slow can be a good thing, and I liked the example of the turtle.  Taking a moment to stop and send someone a note is a great reminder, who knows it could be the highlight of their day.

Jennifer: The slowness to care for another I think is one of the highlights of slowing down.

GARY

I could not agree more- so often we allow ourselves to become Hamsters in a wheel. The result is the more we rush the less we accomplish.  Take the time to finish loose ends up, return phone calls, and BREATHE.  Life is NOT a aprint it is a marathon and you will need endurance to get to the finish line.

Gary,

I agree. Creating wiggle room for better rhythms is very important today.  It keeps you in the moment... g

Allison: That Hamsters in the wheel pattern is tough to break unless we put our mind to it.

Gordon: I like the wiggle room thought, spaces in our day.

Sondra: Slow is good. We all need to do more of it. I have taken up gardening for example.
