There are days in your life you will always remember and, for me, today was one of them. Our beautiful 19 year old daughter, Moriah, graduated from Navy Hospital Corpsman School today. Making the trip to Great Lakes Naval Base (outside Chicago) from North Carolina with me was our daughter, Huntyr and my mom. Moriah’s fiancee Aric, also in the Navy and stationed in Portsmouth, VA joined us in Great Lakes.
Due to national events over the last couple of days, heightened security surrounding the base meant we had to be there a bit early to pass through security. So, our day started bright an early with a 5 am wake-up call. We were being picked up at our hotel by the Sailors’ favorite cab driver, John “Sarge” Spadaro. Retired military himself, he now drives a cab and takes excellent care of our Sailors from the time they arrive at Great Lakes. He gets them where they are going, gives them pointers, doesn’t overcharge them and goes above and beyond the call of duty!! In keeping with Sarge’s track record, we arrived on base in plenty of time and passed through security without a problem.
The ceremony started outdoors with the raising of the flag and it was indeed a beautiful and reverent ceremony. Mother Nature even cooperated fully this morning.
Back inside the Corpsman School Instructor gave a beautiful speech to the graduates. The Chief and Commanding Officer spoke as well and honors were given out. Moriah received an honor for being part of the Drill Team.
Each graduating Sailor received their Certificate of Completion and, after a short debriefing they were released to their respective duty stations. Moriah is going off to Dahlgren, Virginia where she will work on the base as a Dental Tech.
Thank you to Moriah, Aric and our entire military for your service!
Cyndi
PS Of course this trip wouldn’t have been possible for me without the knowledge that I had a teammate/husband back home who had all the craziness of business under control. Thank you honey. You’re the best!
