"Real Neighborhood" in Dallas

Home buyers often ask me to show them homes in "real" neighborhoods.  One of my favorite "real" neighborhoods is located in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas.  Lake Ridge Estates North is bordered by Walnut Hill Lane on the north and McCree Road on the south, Audelia Road on the west and Ferndale Road on the east.  The homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s and are nestled among the neighborhood's mature trees. Some are situated on hills. You can ride your bike on the nearby White Rock Trail south to the northern tip of White Rock Lake. LBJ Freeway is just to the north, for easy access to other major roads.  I have found that during times of peak traffic the secondary streets, such as Audelia Road, Walnut Hill Lane and Northwest Highway are a great alternative to the expressways.  There is a DART Station approximately two miles away.

Although the neighborhood is located in the City of Dallas, the neighborhood schools are part of the Richardson Independent School District (RISD).  Many children walk to the neighborhood school: Lake Highlands Elementary School.

Neighbors are invited to join the Lake Ridge Estates North Neighborhood Association (LRENNA), a voluntary homeowner's association that costs $15.00 a year!  LRENNA was formed to help neighbors get to know one another, with the belief that good communication among neighbors lessens the possibility of crime in a neighborhood.  The Lake Highlands Area Early Childhood PTA (LHAECPTA) also welcomes new members and volunteers. I get the feeling of a "real old fashioned neighborhood" when I drive into the area. Children are playing, families are walking and riding bikes, and family pets are enjoying the sights, scents and sounds, which include blue jays, mockingbirds, robins and cardinals.

I recently listed a home located at 10045 Lakemere Drive that has a floor plan that flows well from area to area.  The kitchen is open to the breakfast room and informal living area. The formal living and dining areas are combined.  The kitchen and two baths have been remodeled and the floors are hardwood and ceramic tile. The outdoor areas are perfect for entertaining.  This house is listed for $259, 900.

Funny I've never heard that term "real neighborhood" before.  What would an "unreal neighborhood" be lol?  Higher density?  Lots of condos and apartments?

I'm thinking the area in the photo above has large mature treed lots.  Can't get much more real than that other than being on a quiet cul-de-sac or backing onto a ravine or greenspace.

Hi Jenny!  Great question!  People seem to want a neighborhood where everyone knows each other and the kids can attend a neighborhood school.  They also love the trees.
