I can't think of more rhyming lines that have anything to do with search engine optimization or search engine marketing... hint : Think what's the difference between SEO and SEM... That's a question on the quiz...kinda sorta. You''ll be one question ahead of me if you go in knowing the answer.
Maureen: I find this interesting & thanks for the post. I won't insult myself by taking the quiz, I'll just stipulate to the fact that I know nothing about SEO. ;-) What I do know, is that since concentrating my efforts on "Our Saint Paul" and only commenting here on the 'Rain, the hits on "OStP" have been steadily, but slowly climbing each month. Since my blog purpose is just to have some fun, not to build a business, I'll just blog on in ignorance.
Maureen I'm off to do floor time or babysit the office until 12:30 so I'll have plenty of time between answering the phone as it rings of the hook. LOL
Randy: I like what ActiveRain does with Google as well. I remember when I joined last summer being amazed. I had been blogging for a year at that point, had some success but my RT Blog did not do what AR did with Google.
I admire people who know a lot about SEO. I have been a Lenn Harley fan for years when she was participating on RealTalk. I think even though I am just a card carrying novice according to the quiz I learned a lot about search engines, websites, etc. from Lenn. Some of the "SEO gurus" on AR scare me.
Lenn is so involved in using ActiveRain to reach consumers (ActiveRain's good Google juice) that I miss her talking to me :- ( about SEO on RealTalk or ActiveRain (Lenn was actually talking to all of RT for all of those years but that's really what I was there for...)
There's a discussion about SEO of WordPress.org blogs on an entry of Jay McGillicuddy's blog about WordPress.org to Hell and Back. I had done this SEO quiz a week or so ago but did not post about it until someone in my market commented on Jay's post that I can explain something to her. I can't... to me it pretty much boils down to magic. ActiveRain is magic. WordPress.org is magic.
I love quizes. Even though this one is loooooong 75 questions, 25 to 30 minutes I saved the answers and hopefully will learn something more about SEO from reading the questions and answers. In fact I did learn from taking the test. There are a lot of questions that pertain to one search engine or the other that I got wrong that really I don't care about, I am not a professional ... just a blogger. I would like to learn enough to be in the Newbie category on this scale though. That's my goal.
Jay: What do you use to measure hits on Old Saint Paul?
I have not visited Old Saint Paul lately, I will have to.
I have blogged over two years now in blissful ignorance, or a novice state of SEO. I get some of it but love the fact that good content gets read and gets links even if I don't write like I am writing for SEO.
Is Old Saint Paul a WordPress blog? .org or .com? Or TypePad? I will go look today.
Monika and Jay: Jay's post and the conversation in the comments re: WordPress.org and WordPress.com spurred me to post the quiz. I think it only took me about 20 minutes to take the quiz because when it comes to some of the questions my brain just got mushy and on others I just don't care. When they distinguish between the different search engines attributes and who deveolped or introduced something they lost my interest and I'd just take a stab.
I hope the phone rings off the hook today (with good calls) and it takes you forever to get the quiz done!!! They say 25 to 30 minutes.
I tried putting a link to Jay's entry in my entry but I had already embedded the YouTube and I kept getting the link in but not right trying to use the html editor on AR.
Hi Maureen - I was humming that song the moment I saw your title! I know I know very little about SEO, but will take the test anyway for curiosity's sake. If you scored what you did, I'm sure to be a flunky! ;-)
Ann
Ann I love that song. Cheryl Johnson has a very similar title for one of her tutorials a day or so ago. Even though Cheryl is on TypePad I get a lot out of reading all of her tutorials. I visted her new blog a few times since she started DaBlogMoher.com
I had thought about posting the SEO quiz just after I found it on Sellsius° and I went looking for a You Tube of the song... becuase the quiz made me think of that song. I was thinking of James Taylor's version rather than Sam Cooke but decided to go with the real classic if I was going to struggle and embed a song to go with the title.
I am surely an SEO novice but the quiz will be fun...maybe. I love what blogging has done for me, and in particular AR, even though I don't get it all. Stil so much to learn.
Jay have not made it to your blog yet. WordPress.com or WordPress.org? You wrote "WordPress" I am thinking it is WordPress.com because I don't think we have "Blog Stats" or could on WordPress.org the stats come from the host. I enjoy the stats on the host but I pay more attention to the stats I look at on Google Analytics because I can compare my two blogs stats side by side.
Thanks Jay. Sometimes that's what it takes! It has been too long since I have been to Old St. Paul! I wonder if I have you in my feedreader.. I gotta keep up.
Well, I took the test and I've got A LOT to learn. The hard part was understanding some of the questions. "which one is the LEAST likely to have the MOST ...". I had trouble wrapping my mind around some of those.
I know ZIP about SEO...I looked at a couple of the test questions and gave up! I'd be lucky to get 1 out of the 75 correct and that 1 would be a fluke guess!
Yes, a novice. I printed off my answers to study the correct answers for those I missed. It made me feel better because I got a lot of the "important" ones right. Some of the ones I missed, I'm going to do more study on.
Regarding those like which search engine is most used by Japan ... who cares.
Couldn't believe I missed the PageRank question. That was a trick!!!! Whodathunkit.
WOW, shameful, haha. This was really fun though, thanks for the unique post. I passed it on to an SEO friend and sure enough he aced it, sigh. SEO Darklord, 92% He did say however that he learned something about the keywords being plural making a difference. He argues the keywords in the domains holding any weight though.
I am glad you tested someone who knows this stuff Cecilia. I would argue the keywords in domains with him but I certainly don't have any authority to argue it.. I'd just say the quiz says so, "so there!"
I had read about the plural making a difference somewhere.
Karen thanks for your honesty. Most of us should not score very high on this. I think it pays to know a little bit so you don't get taken by web designers and gurus who don't know what they ought to know. Or by the real SEO scammers.
