This may look like an avacado to you but to 3 of my grandkids its a Family Tree!

Three grandchildren (7, 5, 3 years old) lined up six assorted jars in my kitchen; loaded them up with water and avacodo seeds; each stuck with the required three toothpicks; and watched them everyday for a good six weeks. Finally one sprouted. (It was one under the ownership of the middle aged boy). We moved it to the window sill. As the root lengthened, split and reached for the bottom of the jar, we kept track of its progress. The leaves began unfolding and started finding their sunshine. Colin, Gavin and Justice each advised one another on the plants progress and predicted the date that we could move the young sprout from its watery bed to a home in "the real dirt".

That finally happened last weekend.

The next drama will be the timing of pruning it back to a 6 inches of stem.

Little things can have big impacts on curious minds. My guys may not remember the details when they grow up but they will remember working with grandma and grandpa and growing their Family Tree.

(When my little girl, Justice, began talking she didn't start with "grandpa", she called me "Bob". Now I'm "Bobby". My name is Phil, but I love it)!
