Last month we held the Inaugural Edition of the Carnival of ActiveRain.  For those of you new to Blog Carnivals, they are essentially contests where the host chooses his or her favorite posts from those submitted.

Last month our contest was from the top section of the ActiveRain categories, blogs focusing on the industry.  This month will switch our focus to blogs for consumers.  So, the categories are:

  Consumer Categories:
  • General Information
  • About a Region
  • Regional News and Events
  • Market Reports
  • Advertising a listing

Winners, I promise you bragging rights, something impressive to add to your listing presentations or resume, and a little bit of clean fun.

Here are the rules:

  1. Only open to ActiveRain bloggers
  2. Deadline for entry is December 1st at midnight EST.
  3. All entries must be originally written and posted between November 1, 2006 and December 1, 2006.  Older posts are not eligible.
  4. Only one entry per member.  Multiple entries will disqualify the entrant.
  5. One award will be made for each category.
  6. Send your submission though the host's contact info.

**Call for category hosts:

I need 5 people to each host one section of the Carnival.  You will receive the entries through your own email address.  When you've chosen the winner, you will write a post about why you selected who you chose.  Hosts will post their selections on December 3rd on their own blog. You can find links here to see what the hosts did last time.

Please leave your name below if you would like to host.  I would like to give a new group of hosts a chance, so people who hosted last time will not be hosting again this month.  Anyone who leaves there name after the first 5 slots are filled will be invited first to host next month's Carnival of ActiveRain.

Here are this month's Hosts.  Please submit your entries through their ActiveRain contact page.

Toby Boyce has graciously agreed to host General Information

Linda Davis has graciously agreed to host About a Region

Christian Real Estate Network has graciously agreed to host Regional News and Events

Fran Rokicki has graciously agreed to host Market Reports

Damion Flynn has graciously agreed to host Advertising a Listing

And everyone can help out by encouraging another blogger to enter!  Don't be shy. Get your blog ready for guests!

UPDATE:  This just in from Washington.  300 bonus points will be awarded to each category winner.

**update:  We are all set for hosts for November.  Thank you everyone for volunteering.  If anyone wants to do this in December, let me know.

Hey thanks again for putting this together.

I'm going to have my hands full myself, as ActiveRain is hosting the Carnival of Real Estate is another two weeks.  I'll have to stock up on red bull to read through all those posts.

I've been focusing on Market Reports for counties / cities in my market area.  I'm doing his because I see a dearth of consumer listings on Active Rain.  I believe that we'll get more consumer traffic with more local blogs.

Where to I send a submission???  I don't think I got that straight last time.  I believe I might have sent a submission into a black hole

Thanks.

Glad to host a section if you don't have enough volunteers....  Oh my gosh!   I didn't think that it would come around so soon!

KK, I'm going after the 300 points myself!

Damion, thanks for stepping up.  Now we've got two winners from the first Carnival on board.

Matt, I think we are going to resumbit all of these carnival entries to the carnival of RE for when you judge.  :->

Lenn, once we have the hosts lined up, you will submit directly to them, through their contact page.

Colleen, Thanks for offering. Let's see where it goes.  I know I can call on you if we are in a pinch!

I was really unhappy with my last entry... it was one of those posts that I thought would be great but it just didn't come together. So, I would prefer to enter again... but if you are short of hosts, I will be happy to... I can live to fight another day.

Maureen - on your original post above, you have 3 hosts listed.  Are they the only ones to submit posts to?  I've never done this before, so want to make sure I'm understanding what one is supposed to do before making a mistake....  ;-)

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity - how many entries do you usually get in a category?

247,154 Points 77 Featured Posts Localism Sponsor Outside Blog

All the hosts names are up.  Go submit away... Fill their mail boxes with beautiful blogs.  You only need to submit directly to the host.

Monika, I will send you an email.

Rich, I think the categories are a bit less elusive when you are bloggin' for the people.  I'm hoping for no mixups.

Christine, Would you want to do it next time?

Ines, send a blog off to one of the hosts!

mari, you just gave me an idea.  We'll talk.

Sharon, hmmmm.  500?  No, not really.  Less than 50, most certainly.  25 would have been the highest last time.  We've only done this once, and I am certain the host's mailboxes will run over with good blogs this month.

I hope you will consider entering.

I'm excited to get a "preview" of the best in general information. Go ahead and give me your best shot! :-)

We've had a lot of questions about "what are you looking for?" I would strongly suggest looking at the first Active Rain Carnival and reading through the posts in the categories you are considering (and no, not just because I'm a past winner) and it will become obvious which section is right for your post.

Good luck to all and can't wait to read all the great tips!

Throw your hat in the ring, Rob.  It will be fun!  As far as I know, nobody has ever gotten sick participating in a blog carnival.  I can't say the same for roller coasters.

Maureen, is it that time again! I can't believe it was just the other day that I lost...oh well ... perhaps this one will be better.

I have a suggestion, especially after reading one of the comments "black hole"...do you think it might be a good idea to get an acknowledgment as a receipt for having sent the URL to the entry? Don't know if that's even feasible or not.

You asked the ? about a Dec. Carnival...my vote is no, due to such a busy holiday month.

Thanks Gena, I also think my blog advertise a listing went to a black hole.  I keep looking back at the blog and changing the settings for it but it doesn't appear in the region.  It is not for the carnival but if I do figure out how to do a great blog by tomorrow night I'd like someone to acknowledge receipt.

thanks

Hi Maureen & Dmitry,

Not sure if my blogs would rate contest winning status but we'd love to try.  Still alittle vague though how to enter.  I read over the whole thing and don't know how to get started.  Can you help please for us less than AR saavy or newbies.

Thanks!

Sure Lisa.  Thanks for asking.

  1. Chose one blog you like.
  2. Click on the title.
  3. Copy the link to the post from the address bar of your web browser.
  4. Come back to this post, and click on the name of the host who is taking care that category.
  5. Use the "contact me" feature to send them the link to the post.
Let me know if that is clearer.  If you have problems, I'll be back in a couple of hours.  Or somebody else might jump in and help you.
