Our Office Meeting

Our typical office meeting.

30 are asked to attend.

3 Show up on time

2 Pay attention

1 Checks out the others butt!

Managing Realtors is like herding cats.

I think instead of calling it a real estate office we should call it a "Cat House"

Pictures supplied by one of my agents who breeds cats. Enjoy! Now lets try to make some money.

Bruce, as funny as that is, it happens to us all I believe. I almost quit having them.

Bruce, unfortunately very true. And we wonder why the average agent does only 3-4 transactions a year.

Gave up on those "regular" meetings years ago. Our company does them 6-7 times per year. Works out fine.

Regular meetings hosted by a creative broker are definitely worth attending. I believe agents, who have any amount of experience, know how to different and decide the value. I regularly attend my broker's meetings...interesting presentation, guest speakers, etc.

Ok now help. Anyone have a script for the perfect office meeting? I hold really cool meetings. Outside sometimes on our patio with beer and burgers. Sometimes in our favorite pizza place.

My question is what benifits an agent most?

How about those other activities that all offices do? Which are worth while?

Our meetings are actually fairly well attended. Our managing broker does a really good job of providing good, timely, and relevant information. It's almost like you really DON'T wan to miss out, especially with this market. You need all the tips and advice you can get!

Can't make money in a sales meeting.  Also can't catch up on sleep so that you can dream about the dollars you're going to make in the Real Estate business and if you're not dreaming you're losing valuable R.E.M.which means you're susceptable to brain washing - and if susceptible to brain washing you happen to turn on the news and it's doom and gloom about the market then hey, you're liable to believe it

But in all seriousness I was in sales and marketing 21 years prior to entering the Real Estate business and endured weekly sales meetings.  In fact although consistently in the top 5% of every company (not meaning to brag... ahem...) I actually was written up once for sleeping during a sales meeting.  ( I guess I snore )  Anyway, I attended one of those sleep seminar things where they determine you have to wear a mask when you sleep to stop the snoring and so forth - didn't go over well when I brought it to the next meeting... but I digress.

One thing I vowed was if I ever became an independent representative making straight commission I'd seldom if ever attend another sales meeting for the rest of my info seeking life.  What can't be said in a sales meeting that couldn't be put into an e-mail with 3-5 bullet points.  Sure times are changing - technology is here to stay and it's going to make me buy a new laptop every 3 days but hey... can't ya just put it in an e-mail?  Seriously.  What about, let's say, one meeting a year.  I could almost live with that.  Shouldn't I be out meeting new people and staying in touch with past clients?  Don't most people in the office passive aggressively attempt to just sit around like used car salesmen busting chops when they get a new listing?

"Hey Bob, got a new listing today."

"Really?"

"Yup." (Puffs out chest) "Got it on floor duty."

"Wow, good job Bill. Carpe' Diem!"

"Thanks Bob. Hey, it could happen for you too... you wanna cover my floor time next Thursday?"

"No thanks, I have to polish my Presidents Club Award for most sales in a single month. Maybe next time though."

Oh well.  Life is good.

Bruce I agree... it's so hard to get everyone in one place, just once a week, and for only an hour isn't it? Well it's their loss for missing out on the meetings (that's how I feel). Best of luck and keep doing what you do.
