New Charter School Coming to Lake Havasu CityThere’s a new charter school coming to Lake Havasu City which will add to the number of public schools in the area.  The Leona Group, LLC is planning to open a kindergarten through 8th grade school where the former Desert Technology High School building was located.  The school is set to open in August 2011.

The school is opening in this location due to the overwhelming response and interest from Lake Havasu City residents with children. The Leona Group also operates several other schools throughout Arizona, including 18 middle schools and high schools.  This particular school will be their very first K-8 in Arizona.  They operate a total of 50 schools within Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.

The Lake Havasu Charter School will be closing their doors at the end of this school year.  Telesis Preparatory Academy is the only other K-12 public charter school in the city.  Other public schools include the Lake Havasu Unified School District, which houses almost 6,000 students.

When the school opens, it will be located at 3155 Maricopa Ave. Renovations will soon begin and the Leona Group is holding a public meeting on May 10th at 6pm to solicit input on a school name, explain the school's programs and enrollment.  You can find the meeting at the Aquatic Center at 100 Park Ave.  Everyone is invited to attend.  For more information, visit www.leonagroup.com.
