HELP MY SMART PHONE IS ACTING STUPID !

By
Real Estate Agent with David Tracy Real Estate #555994

I have been having such bad reception from AT&T servicethat I am thinking about changing carriers. I have had my iphone for over a year and my daughter has had hers for about 2 or 3 years.  We are both having problems.

Several people I know that have iPhones are having problems also. Yesterday I needed to use the map icon to get to my destination it never loaded! That was the last straw. I am tired of waiting for AT&T to get their act together.

This is my real estate phone I need to be able to get a hold of my clients when I need to and I need to hear what they are saying!

So with that being said, who in the greater Houston area has had problems with their iPhones ? Before I break my two year contract I need to know that these problems are not just our cell phone problems...Heather's is old and I spilt a little bit of soda on mine.

So if you have an AT&T smart phone are you having problems with your service? And, I need to know which service I should transfer to.

So everyone please help me and give me some advice or direction!

I have verizon, but my suggestion is that you ask some local folks.  Do you have insurance on your phone, maybe it needs an update perhaps?  I'd go to the local AT&T store before I switched.

Sussie, I am with Verizon, had a blackberry really loved it but my 2 years was up, blackberry gave me problems so I went with the Droid, which I really like.  I would talk with my carrier first, make sure you update your phone, I do this monthly to keep it current.  It helps prevent some problems but I definitely would speak to my carrier and perhaps someone her at AR in Texas can give you some insight.  Good luck!

Donald and Mary how do I update my iPhone? I am not a techie and I really need help. I went to the AT&T store and asked and they did not offer the suggestion to update my phone.

Tammy I thought you could not get insurance for your phone. At least I was told by the AT&T store that I could not get an insurance plan with them. Where do you get yours?

I am having a terrible time with AT&T right now too.  I can't switch though, I have been with them for so long (cingular, cell one and so on before them) that I have an imbedded number that can not be transferred to another service provider and I do not want to give up my number, it is everywhere and I have had it for 10+ years.  I have found calling their service department and complaining non-stop and continuing to call has helped.

June! I have had this phone number since cingular! I wonder if my phone is an embedded number? How do I find that out?

Sussie I dumped AT&T years ago when they bought out BellSouth.  The service sucked then and looks like it still does.  You mean your daughter is willing to give up the iPhone?  I am with T-Mobile.  No complaints here.

I know the news is out that AT&T is trying to buy T-Mobile. But as far as customer service and reception, I've had zero issues with T-Mobile. You can always check in your area to see if that's an option.

Allways good to get into the habit of updating your smart phone with the latest updates, along with your computer.

Sussie,

I should have read this blog before I emailed you! First you update your phone by syncing it with iTunes. It will pop up on the screen if there is an update. We have had 2 updates this year so I am sure you will need one.

Second thing you need to do is reset your phone once a week or so. You reset it by turning it off and leaving it for an hour or so or like me overnight. According to my AT&T guy he told me it resets the phone and re-alignes the closes service tower (?) I don't know if he was fooling me but I do it and I seem to not have any issues.

I love my iPhone and can't imagine giving it up.

Sussie, I have a lot of dropped calls with my iPhone. Also, I can only use it in certain spots in my house. If I'm in the kitchen, forget it - no reception. Very frustrating.

Hey Charita! Well I feel like dumping AT&T right now!

When the company was Cingular it was a great company and not too expensive. Then it was purchased by AT&T... first to go was the affordability. Then slowly the reception. Now it really is expensive to use.

Now Craig Rutman says AT&T will be purchasing T-Mobile. In our area TM is a very good company. Expensive but good. If AT&T does buy it well then I am sure they are after the cell towers.

Iis also pod casting live.

I am hoping Nona Swan will send me a link of where to download iTunes so that I can download that. In turnI will then be able to syncmy iPhone.

Hi Sussie, I have T-Mobile, but I have heard that Verizon gets signals where other services don't.

I can almost assure you that it is not the I phone! It's most likely the service provider! I would suggest Verizon in the future. Many say Verizon is pricey, but to me its worth every penny. You get exactly what you pay for and with Verizon I have never had any issues with my phones or coverage. It is hard to find a service comparable to Verizon that has better rates. I think Sprint may be the closest. Either way, I would definitely stray away from AT&T.

Okay. During the last hurricane we got here, AT&T cell phones were working where others were not. I don't know if Verizon was or wasn't.

AT&T will nickle and dime you to death. I know a lot of people have trouble with reception. This particular instance was the only time period in 10 years that I have had any problem. I am concerned because they are purchasing another carrier and they seem to not be able to handle what they have now.

I think I will be changing and using a droid when my contract is over. But I won't sing Verizons praises because that is who we use here at work and their service is not all that either.

Plus my BNL work for them, nuff said.
