On the First Friday of the month, downtown Kansas City business owners open their doors to the public for one big party! The owners provide drinks for visitors - Free, but if there's a donation jar, be sure to contribute a dollar or two to help offset the cost to the owner.
The musicians in the photo played some excellent jazz at Salva O'Renick, a local advertising company located at 1810 Cherry.
In another corner of Salva O'Renick, local mosaic artist Lindsey Kay worked on a piece she is creating.
How awesome to see an artist at work while sipping on an ice cold Hamms as jazz tunes float through the air!
Thanks, Dan and Mark, for opening up Salva O'Renick's magnificent space for us to enjoy!
This First Friday, there was also one corner downtown devoted to mobile food vendors. 3 Girls Cupcakes, The Roasterie, Coffee Cake KC, Magical Meatball Tour, tje Good You were among the food vendors who participated. Food Truck Friday, at 1729 Grand, was sponsored by the Kansas City Star.
We also had an Air Guitar Flash Mob at 20th and Baltimore. The First Friday Air Guitar Flash Mob was a viral promotion for the US Air Guitar Champions scheduled for May 19th. Eric Melin, local musician, air guitarist and social media master, spent many long hours puttiing the Flash Mob together. Thanks, Eic!
The Air Guitar Regional Championships at Crosstown Station in Kansas City is sponsored by The Pitch. Anyone can register; the finalists go to Finland for the World Championship!
Lindsey will be doing a wall for the Ronald McDonald House later this summer. Check back in a month or so for a sneak peek.
If you'd like Lindsey to do a mosaic on your garden wall, contact her at LindseyKayMosaics@gmail.com.
If you'd like to experience First Fridays Downtown Kansas City IRL, the next one is June 3rd. Be sure to arrive early so you can get a good parking space. Activities start at 5pm. Come on out and meet some fun people!
Thanks to Cathy and Ter at Western Musical for your warm hospitality and also to Yelp! for the cool armbands and fingerless gloves. Thanks to Alisha for the cool tattoo. And thanks to Eric, King, Will, Jennifer, Star, Mark, Justin, Jody, Ray, Terin, and all the Manhattanites for a rocking fun time!
