Every Mother's Day in Glen Ellen, the Glen Ellen Fire Department serves up delicious heaping plates of pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon and fruit to crowds of locals who flock to this village gathering. Multi-generations come together for this special meal which honors Mom and raises money for firefighting efforts.
The firefighters, all volunteers, and their families host the event which starts at 8am and runs through noon. The breakfast costs $7 for adults, $3 for children over 6, and kids under 6 eat for free.
The Mother's Day breakfast is always popular with full-time residents and Glen Ellen vacation home owners alike. For locals it's a morning to mingle with neighbors and their hometown heros. For folks who own a vacation home in Glen Ellen it's a chance to meet the great people dedicated to protecting their property even while they are away.
My late uncle, Winfield Smith, was the volunteer fire chief in Glen Ellen for many years so this breakfast as special meaning for me. I'll be there with my Mom.
