Pay It Forward - Does It Count When It's Family?
This week I didn't save any lives or find any new charity to contribute to. There was no dog transport in my area. Gosh, I didn't even help a little old lady cross the street!
What I did do is give up a day and a half to two of my grandchildren. Thankfully, their mom has a great new, full time job, but now they must go to day care two to three days per week. First grader, Jack only goes before and after school, but poor Mia is only in preschool, so when she goes, she is there ten hours a day. That is more than most adults put in on their jobs. She loved preschool when it was just a few hours, but being away from Momma for ten hours at a time is taking a toll.
Thursday evening, in anticipation of Friday, Mia cried and cried---the kind of tears that break a grandmother’s heart! I caved in and told her mom to bring both kids over in the morning. I got Jack off to school and kept Mia for the day. Jack got to ride the bus home to Nana’s. I had already committed to having them sleep over, so I had them until almost noon today (Saturday)!
We had a great time together. I am sure I had even more fun than they did, but of course my work suffered and I am still trying to get caught up. It was worth it to see both kids smiling and happy. It made the day a lot less stressful for their mother too. I would do this every day if I could!
