I know we have had an ongoing discussion about doing loans out of state.  I know many of you do them and do them very well.  I happen to disagree and we left it at that.  You do your thing and I'll do mine  BUT, I was watching TV out of the corner of my eye and reading David Halbertstam's book "The Coldest Winter"  ( Excellent  history of the Korean War and for those interested I highly recommend it), when I saw this ad.  I am not even sure who it is for but I believe it is either a Charles Schwab or Edward Jones ad or at least some financial advisor.

Ad shows picture of Dr in scrubs leaning up against a wall talking on cell and you can here him say "Make a 3 inch vertical incision between the 3rd and 5th ventricle then................. Fade to picture of guy sitting at kitchen table with butter knife in hand and looking almost sick.  He says "Shouldn't we be doing something this important face to face?"

If I were able to drink coffee I would have spewed it all over my bed as I laughed so hard.  I do think this is the kind of decision that needs to be done face to face but will leave it at that.  You guys continue to do it your way and I will continue to do it mine.

On a new subject, My Dr says that I have healed enough now that she can put in my artificial throat in preparation for my being able to eat and speak again.  On Wed next week she will do this operation and I will have about 2 weeks recuperation and she will send me home for 6 weeks before she can put in the artificial voice box.  It does appear that there finally is light at the end of this year long tunnel.  It all began with a CAT scan on Oct 13th last year.  Thanks in advance for your many kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Good Luck, Good Lending and Aloha.

Bruce - you make an excellent point. To me its like buying real estate sight unseen. It has only happened to me once because I always push for people to come and then if they refuse, I make them sign their lives away in terms of agreeing it was against my advice!

On more important matters, I wish you well in your continued progress towards full recovery.

HI Simon -  Thanks for your wonderful thoughts.  This is a real hot button item on this web site and you will see plenty of people respond to this by trelling you how much better they can do the job from across the country than you can from across the street.  It is a fun argument and worth pusuing for the entertainment value if nothing else.  Aloha

Aloha to you too. I was in Hawaii in March and I just said to my wife today as I jingled her shell Lai that she has over her car rear view mirror "I want to go back". She says "two weeks". I said "two months"!

Well when I get bored I'll blog on the subject and look for the fireworks!

Hey Bruce,

Glad to see you are doing well.    HHmmmm, artificial throat, never heard of that before, good luck. I guess until you get the artificial voice box, you will just have to use hand signals. Good luck in your future operations.

Bruce,

I'm not an expert at it but I think when they are out of town they can't "feel" the area. I'm not really sure but one can only know:)

Hope you are feeling better these days!

The out of state lender issue created a brick wall for a transaction- they sent an appraiser from a different part of Long Island (rather than local) and, from their California offices, decided that the appraisal was spot on.  It's about 70k too high.  The house is foreclosing; the owner is selling oil out of the tank; it sat on the market at a price well below the appraisal for over a year and three agents...but, they know best.  Hey!  Having your keyboard is going to be such a help with communicating until the VB is in- the beauty of innovation.  Another great post- thanks.

Hi Randy -- My Dr says I will be a cross between the AOL guy "You have Mail" and my old voice.  Should be a wonderful voice with which to do loans.  LOL  B

Hi Neal -- You are right but thre guys that claim they do it all the time and do it better than we do are really adamant about it so I just let it be.  Aloha

Sean -- Unfortunately I have to carry a little steno pad so that I can comunicate but only for a little while longer.  Aloha

Hi Kathy-- It is really only way to get out of a winless argument without causing too many hard feelings.  Aloha

Hi Jay -- I know the kind of haircut you are talking about and they are always painful.  They will take a graft off my thigh to buid a wind pipe.  They wanted to take it off my butt and I refused as then I would always be talking out of my butt!!!!!   Aloha  B

Get Well, Bruce.  i thought the very same way you do until...

I learned how to use technology to meet "face to Face" across the globe.   It has served my busy clientele, well.

Hi All -- Thanks so much for your comments and thoughts and prayers.  The plastic surgeon was just in to talk to me and this rather simpole operation will take another 8-12 hours on the table.  Phew will I be glad when this is all over.  I muct admit it is somewhat unnerving.  Thanks again for all of your comments and thoughts and prayers.  I appreciate them so much.  Aloha   B

Bruce - I've yet to comment on any of your blogs but this one definitely got my attention!  I'm not in Hawaii but I am in Alaska and we get the same problems with most out of state lenders.  I think I had two since 1999 go off without a hitch so I know what you are talking about.

Anyway, I've been learning to get a little history on a writer before I shoot off my big mouth so I've spent about 45 minutes reading some of your blogs.  I wanted to add that I hope your recovery continues.  You seem like the kind of guy who's going to try and jump in the deep end with both feet but please be careful.  Take care of yourself.  You have good people by your side with Randy and Sally.  Let your friends be there for you and you'll be in my thoughts as well.

Hi Debbie--- Thanks for your comments.  Are you a Chacheeko?  I am not.  I spent two winters at Ft Wainwright in 69 and 70 and loved it.  I even considered retiring up there but in the end the trade winds and golf courses were to much of a draw, but in my heart I am an adopted son.  You are so right about Randy and Sally and when I am out ot the hospital adn working I talk to them in person about twice a week, and look forward to doing it again soon.  Aloha and come visit.  B

Bruce - I've been in Alaska most of my life.  However, I live in Southeast where it's rainy and mild.  I'm a big sissy when it comes to the true cold but I've learned to dress for it.  You take care and we hope you are chowing down on hot dogs really soon.  I will abstain from hot dogs in your honor until the day you tell me you got to have one.

Hi Debbie -- Thanks so much.  This operation I am having on Wed is to reinstate my food passage way.  I should be able to eat a hot dog by Christmas or so but I will let every one know.

I do not know if you have been north of the range in the winter but if not it is certainly worth the trip.  It is such a beautiful place.  Aloha

I can't agree more. My experience has been that loans run smoother if they are with a local LO. I know the commercial you referenced. It gives me a giggle every time I see it.

It's good yo hear about your progress. God bless.
