Does this House Move You? - Staging a House with Emotion
Home staging is not just about placing furniture in a vacant property, or adding fresh towels in the bathroom or throwing some colourful toss cushions on a sofa and calling it a day. At Exit Stage Right, we believe there is so much more to home staging than meets the eye. I always find it rather amusing, those who feel they can stage a property themselves and think they don't need a professional Home Stager.
A really good Home Stager will take an uninteresting corner and turn it into an interesting feature. They will add something that tugs at your heart strings, or makes your heart skip a beat. It will be a little touch here or a little interesting grouping there that makes you sigh or catch your breath, either consciously or subconsciously.
Don't settle for just ok. Wow buyers by hiring a Real Estate Home Stager who can really grab a home buyer's attention and let them remember your home above the other 10 homes they visited that weekend.
Sally, what a great post! People sometimes have no idea what to do with certain things. I did just what you said on Saturday at a consult! They had an old chest of drawers in a corner, in the finished basement, and then found an old hurricane lamp and some old pictures and I made a little 'antique' corner with it all. It changed the whole feeling of that little space. None of those things would have worked anywhere else in the house...
You are so right, Sally. DIY staging is very popular now but Professionally Staged Home is like a fine art piece at the craft show.
Peg - I hope you took a photo of the niche - I'd love you to post it either here or in a separate post. It sounds charming.
Anna - Oh, I need to borrow that line! "a professionally staged home is like a fine piece of art in a craft show" - love it!
Sally, super photo. I agree with you, HGTV does not a good stager make ;).
Sally- I am with Anna and Shar....you take it all a step higher!!! That is what great about this business....to keep- pushing it and improving and reaching.....you go girl!
Hi Sally...now that's what i need a someone to tug at be heart or make it skip a beat or two and sigh then take my Breath away...Gesh!
Love Ya!
Janice - Agreed. Watching HGTV staging shows, and real life staging are two completely different things!
David - Ok, you could toss a throw cushion anywhere and you would create magic! Absolutely, there are people out in the world who have a God given talent and I say go for it, but for the other 90% of folks, hire a stager!
Shar - Anna nailed it!
Marianne - We are all in the school of pushing boundaries - it's great fun! Lots of like minds.
Frederick - Come on now, work with me here... Ok, it sounded a bit like a Harlequin Romance, but you know what I'm talkin about! Love Ya Back!
I totally agree. Hiring a professional stager is part of my marketing plan for every seller.
Colleen - That's great to hear. It's wonderful how more and more Realtors® are embracing home staging and witnessing the benefits.
Sally--you are so right, of course, there is a vast difference between the DIY want-to-be-a-stager and a real, live, experienced one who has the ability to create those "ooh" and "ahhh" moments.
Sally ~ DIY stagers usually are unable to create the emotion that's needed -- and I love what Colleen above said!! Her clients are lucky!
Janet - It's the nuances and small touches that often send a much more powerful message than just placing furniture in a room and calling it a day.
Maureen - Colleen above and many more Realtors® are realizing that having stagers as part of their marketing plan gives them the edge when selling homes. I agree, her clients are very lucky!
