The Ultimate Facebook Business Page - Day 6 of 8 - Using Events to your Advantage

How can I use Events to get more Facebook Love?

Let's start with the simple stuff.  What does an event look like?

As with everything on Facebook, you can optimize the content.  In the More Info section, make it usable for the reader, but don't be afraid to add more keyword content to the page.

Videos, Links & Photos

As this is a sample that we created, we don't have a web site built for the page, nor do we have interior photos for a photo tour or video for a video tour of the house, but if this were a real listing, I would definitely tie those items together into this event page for additional content and Facebook Love.

Who's Coming to Dinner?

Some choose to show an invitee list while others argue that showing an invite list without showing good attending replies can be a negative.  I say do both.  Start by not showing the list.  If you get a good enough list that you are happy to show it, you can always publicize it later.  If this were a party for my birthday, I would show everybody, but buying a home is a private thing that many would want to keep between themselves and their realtor.

How do I invite people?

Click on the Invite Friends.  Here you can search by friends/fans name, or you can invite by email as well.

Add a message to the bottom of the page as well to personalize your invites.

Segment your list into 2 types of invites:  Buyers & Realtors

Offer different content for each group.  Buyers might be:

"Beautiful 3 story home on Lake Champlain.  Huge barn with 20 stalls and over 40 acres of pastureland for your horses."

That same home for Realtors:

"3 story beauty on Lake Champlain.  Great for horse enthusiasts with 20 stalls and 40 acres.  Staged and ready for appointments at your leisure, On-site transportation available on Open House Days."

What does the invitation look like?

Now I see what it looks like, What does it do for me?

If you remember in Day 5 Part 2 of our series, we talked about EdgeRank and we talked about popularity and Recency.  By getting your users to engage in an open house or event invite, you are putting timeliness into the equation AND adding an interaction point for your users.  You are earning your way into their Top Stories for the rest of your posts.

In addition to Edge Rank, your events now show up on their profile page as an upcoming event and on the day of the event, you show up on their Daily Events area reminding them that they are supposed to be in attendance at your event.

Each touch point that you have with them is another point that reminds them who their realtor should be.

In marketing we talk about advertisment and brand success being a derivative on the frequency that an advertisement or brand mark is seen by a propsective customer.

Coca Cola isn't swaying your opinion to drink their product with their ad.  In fact, product features and benefits are seldom a part of the ad, but rather they are supporting their brand mark with high frequency of image placements.

The same logic applies to why you should use Facebook Events to promote your agency and your listings.  The frequency keeps you at the top of everyone's mind.

I think this is the most important article in the series thus far.  This is the piece that can make a Realtor's facebook presence really explode.  Many don't like to do open houses, but utilizing the power of facebook may make some people start doing them again.
