VB, everyone is keeping an eye on the river.  They predict the water will reach 48 feet by 5/12, this Thursday.  There are still many places under water in MS and TN.  I took this picture when I was going to Memphis, Tn which is only 15 mins away from Marion, Ark.

Good evening, VB. Folks build along the banks of the Mississippi for the same reason that folks build and live in New Orleans. Yes they flood. Native Americans often wondered why the white man did silly things such as this. I wonder too...

Robert - wow that's some picture... Surely this isn't the only or last time this will happen... I really feel bad for those people who are suffering through this. We had just had flooding in our areas again this spring just down the street from our house. I know this is devastating to those who live in flood zones... So sad...Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in those areas...

Hello Ritu and that is amazing and very sad!

And Michael ... Along with building by HUGE rivers like the Mississippi and Ocean properties why aren't people getting the hint from all the storms and disasters ... "Don't build close to them"!

Hello Robert and no it won't be the last time ... 2012 & 2013 are going to be worse then 2011, and thanks for stopping by!

VB it is not just the Rivers,  people live on hillsides (Hollywood Hills to Mallibu Hills) for the view and the potential is there for slides.....Ocean Views from the Hills of Playa Del Rey to Malibu to name a few.... just the way we are:))

Great question Bob... Also why would someone want to live in a city that is 20,000 feet below sea level? or why would you want to live in an area that is prone to tornados, hurricanes, wildfires, or earthquakes?  Everyone has a different answer to that question.. My answer to living in an area that is prone to wild fires and earthquakes??? Because it sucks less then living in an area that is prone to tornados... =)

Michael above echoed my initial thoughts.  I still wish that I could invent an affordable way to get the potential flood water to the areas like Texas and Colorado that are having a drought.

Thanks for stopping by Endre and VB would like to be one of those people in those hills, but I would worry less about my home falling off some cliff before a river flooded my home, and or tornado, hurricane, etc. The only thing we have to worry about in Vegas is the heat and all a person has to do is drink plenty of water and step into the AC if you get to hot!

And Stacey it is strange, different strokes for different folks!

Thanks for stopping by Ellen and disaster is disaster anyway you look at it, and no it's not a good thing!

Hello Sondra and there's another problem ... "Droughts"

That picture is so powerful! I am guessing some people who live along the banks do so for work or the cost of the property probably is less.

Not where I would live , but then again New orleans would not be either....  Why place your self below sea level on the ocean???? Never made sense to me,  Why not build my new mansion in the most traveled hurricane pathway...  that's where I want to live!!!

Tiffany and I would say when peoples properties get flooded they do work hard, and lose value.

I really don't know why people live in places of natural disasters, but they have now excuse when their homes are destroyed.

If you live in a flood zone you should expect flooding. If you live in an area with hurricanes, expect hurricanes. If you live in an area where there is drought, expect drought. If you live in an area where there are tornados, expect tornados. Just hope these folks had good flood insurance. Even so, we need to keep them in our prayers.
