The butterfly is a universal symbol of transformation and rebirth.
"If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies" Unknown
A few years ago, while walking along the coast in Maine, my husband and I came across a spider web with a butterfly on it. I wasn't sure the beauty of it could be captured with a camera, but I took some shots. This picture has been one of my favorites ever since.
The butterfly is nature's perfect example of life as you know it coming to an end in order to bring forth an even greater life ahead. I believe that the butterfly can inspire us all. It can remind us that change, no matter how disruptive or painful, can open doors to opportunity and greater happiness.
Some of life's worst challenges bring forth the best rewards. When faced with the unknown it is natural to feel fear, to assume that a "worst case scenerio" lies ahead. It's not easy to find faith or courage in what seems like an impossible situation.
"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly" Richard Bach
Something to consider: Birth feels like the end of the world to the infant who is being ripped from the only life it's ever known. The dramatic and frightening trip down the birth canal appears to be more of an ending than a beginning. We have no idea that a whole new life awaits us on the other side. We would probably never leave the comfort of the womb if it were our choice. Good thing we are not given a choice!
The next time you find yourself in a negative situation, a hopeless situation, or what appears to be an ending of sorts...remind yourself that what you perceive to be the worst possible turn of events, just may end up being the turning point in which your life changes dramatically for the better.

"How does one become a butterfly? she asked. You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar." Unknown
