John BelushiDon't let this picture scare you in regards to your kids going to college. This just happens to be a clasic when it comes to movies, Animal House , in 1978. But Philadelphia has some of the best Colleges and Universities in the Northeast Region. The University of Pennsylvania, once known as The Academy of Pennsylvania, was founded in 1749. Making it the oldest school in the Philadelphia area. There is some disagreement about Penn's date of founding because of a certain log found at Princeton University. But because of the uncertainties surrounding this, there is some connection between this school and the College of New Jersey that would enable Princeton to claim a founding date of 1726. But Princeton does not officially do so and a Princeton historian says that the "facts do not warrant" such a claim.

Wow! I got to be the first comment this time! Usually by the time I arrive on the scene, you've got like twenty gazillion comments!

Hey there, Jeffrey! You forgot one...

Philadelphia Biblical University

I only mention that one because I have a friend that attends there!

Oh, and there's that 'Nova school again. Don't they have a well-known sports team? Synchronized swim team, maybe?

Nova gave us Brian Westbrook  and  Brian Brady.  (And the win over Georgetown in '85).

This city is loaded with colleges which is an attraction to the pharmaceutical companies in particular

Head just a bit north and hit the likes of Lehigh University and over the bridge in jersey to Rowan.

Rich......  yes, you get the door prize for being first.  ;o)  Thanks for the add and information. I left several schools out. Just so many.

Allison...... thanks for the kind words. I wanted to add more description to each school, but this would have been a very long post. Hence the reason why they can click onto each link.

Rob...... my fellow Philadelphian.... love your input throughout my whole series. And I assume you read my Villonva description, that I threw Brian's name in there. Let's see if he notices this.  ;o)  And yes, some good points about 'Nova.

And you also correct about the pharmaceutical companies and some of these colleges that offer medicine and such. It's becoming even more popular locally.

Last....  something that I did fail to do in this series is mention some things about New Jersey and how close some things are to Philly. As you said... Rowan and you have Rutgers Camden which has a good Law college there.

If you noticed, I did go back to the sports series, #1, and add the Commerce Bike race, formerly known as the Core States Bike race. So, anything that I seem to have forgotten, please let me know.  thanks

Jeff..... I did NOT notice the Brian insert in the Nova description.  Perfect.

How could I forget the bike race?  I USED to go every year, "the Wall' in Manayunk.  Missed the last 2 years unfortunatly.

Methinks you should copywrite this series of blogs and send to the head of the Visitor's Center/Tourism Bureau....or whatever they call it these days.

Rob.....  I am waiting for Brian to even pop in here and to see if he would notice.  lol

2nd...yea, even though I have been once, I can't believe that I forgot about that. Did you check it out, in the sports section?

Do you really think I should send this to someone?  Or maybe even the local tv stations?  Would the effort in copy writing this be worth it?  In any case, thanks for the great compliment.

Honestly, it's not a bad idea to send the 'series' of Blogs to some media outlet with an explanation of ActiveRain and how places like this contribute to the promotion of cities such as Philadelphia.

Copywrite?  I guess not.

Which media outlet? Not sure. I assume The Inquirer has a weekly section on Real Estate...that may be a fit...or of course the 'Entertainment' section.  Each has it's own Department I'm sure....so you may need to make some calls (TV also)....and perhaps web searches.......to find "The right person".

If I have time, I'll start scoping it out. Putting all of your Blogs together, this really is a very informative piece on Philadelphia.

Rob.... thanks a lot. I really do appreciate the thoughts and possibly the help. And give me a call some time when you get a chance.

Ravi..... I actually thought about you when I mentioned Drexel, because you mentioned their business program in my previous blog, right? ;o)  Thanks for the great compliment and for stopping by.

And just an FYI, I really do appreciate the comments and compliments from everyone that mentioned something. I will be honest with you though... I am looking forward to writing another blog on something else. I have enjoyed this immensly and have actually learned a lot as I did research and wrote this. But it has taken some time. But again, I am glad that some people have enjoyed this series. One left for tonight. So, stayed tuned.

And Rob.. what a great way to actually promote AR, this community, my blogs, and myself.  thanks  So I will take a look at the Philly Inquirer also... and possibly the TV stations, more so, their web sites.

But a question for any of you tech people out there. How can I print these to make them look professional?  Maybe Matt or Caleb can have someone install a print button?  So it just prints the blog and nothing else from the side, making it look professional?

A print button for a specific blog would be a really helpful tool.

Ann......  thanks for sharing as always. And I aprreicate the kind words.. that does mean a lot to me. I guess after reading this over, it has made me realize how much I have negleted in regards to what Philly has to offer. And thanks to Rob, it would be cool to possibly push this series into the media market, with my name and AR.

Wonder if Philadelphia Magazine would have any interest.  I used to subscribe, it's a great mag for ANYONE visiting OR living near the city.

chapelThis is where I spent most of my time at Villanova while on campus; the St. Thomas of Villanova Chapel, nicknames "The Spires" by generations of Villanovans.

Well...maybe not most of my time but I did get inside right before exam week.

I have nothing to add to these blogs about Philly.  They are so comlplete and informational that an expatriate like me (I haven't been back in 7 years) would not do the blogs justice by augmenting anything you've written.

The Brian Brady School of Ethics at Villanova University?  I'll leave that nomination up to Mr. Corbett (Jeff C., I'm joshing you.  Welcome home from Buffalo.)

Rob... thanks for the info.

Brian.... thanks for the laugh, in regards to going to the Chapel often. It was like when my parents would call me my Freshman year and I instructed my roommate to tell my parents that I was at the library. Gee..... 5 days a week? that would be a record just for a year, but 5 times a week... lol

Brian... and thanks for the great compliments...

GO TEMPLE OWLS!!!!!

How about these small additions: Bryn Mawr College - a rarity as a women's college, and Swarthmore College

I have to commend you on this series.  I know it takes a lot of work.  And you can't keep eveyone happy if they know the city.  There is just so much!  Great job!

Sean..... thanks a lot for the great compliment.

Adam..... I just tried adding Bry Mawr, but when I went to edit, there were a bunch of symbols in there... I didn't want to disturb this until I talk to Matt Heaton.

In any case.... thanks a lot for the positive compliments...

If anyone has any other ideas about sending these as a series of blogs into the new papers, the local TV, copy righting these and anything else, I would greatly appreciate and help, contacts, and or feedback. Ravi had sent me something and Rob was looking into something.

By the way Rob... anything?  ;o)
