City of Bothell Honored by Gov. Gregoire:

2007 Governor's Smart Communities Award Recipient

Bothell, Wash. - Governor Gregoire presented a 2007 Governor's Smart Communities Award to the City of Bothell at an Olympia reception last night honoring statewide winners for creating livable communities. The City of Bothell is recognized in the Smart Choices Award - Implementation of a Comprehensive Plan category for its Capital Facilities Plan, a seven-year comprehensive financial plan and needs assessment that identifies and prioritizes funding for capital improvement projects such as parks, road improvements, utilities and new facilities.  The approximately $177 million Capital Facilities Plan incorporates 48 projects that cover transportation, parks, facilities and various utility improvements.  Other Smart Communities Award winners include: the cities of Everett, SeaTac, Oak Harbor, Seattle, and Bellevue, and merit awards were given to Stevens County and the Seattle and Tacoma housing authorities.

"Our Capital Facilities Plan is the result of the City Council, City staff and our boards and commissions working together to prioritize Bothell's investments in our community to ensure the best possible quality of life for our citizens for years to come," said City of Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb. "I congratulate all of my fellow Plan Committee members for their hard work and innovative thinking and thank Governor Gregoire for her recognition of our efforts."

"As Washington works to position itself in the global economy, the work of local governments and their partners to create vibrant, quality communities is vital to our success," said Governor Gregoire. "The leadership of these award winners helps to make Washington a great state in which to live and do business."

"The Capital Facilities Plan creates a long-term capital financing strategy that will have a positive and lasting impact on our community by providing the City of Bothell an unprecedented opportunity to address capital needs," said City of Bothell City Manager Bob Stowe. "The Plan is a key to the foundation of Bothell's Downtown Revitalization and represents a significant accomplishment for the City."
