STATE TESTING at Foothill Ranch Elementary - May 9th - 25th, 2011 (2nd-6th Grades):

Parents of students in 2nd- 6th grade, it is STAR testing time again.  Our school will be starting  our STATE testing tomorrow.  Please click HERE to download the PDF that contains the specific grade level testing dates and times. We will have a very strict "No Interruption" guideline in place when classrooms are testing.
 
Please consider the following test preparation tips to help your son or daughter perform to the best of his or her ability:
 
* Get plenty of sleep! Get at least eight hours of sleep so you are well rested and refreshed.
* Eat a healthy breakfast! Vegetables, fruits, and high-protein foods are best (avoid sugar and fat).
* Drink plenty of water! Your brain works best when it is thoroughly hydrated.
* Be on time! If you leave early, you'll be more relaxed, unforeseen traffic won't hinder your punctuality, and you'll have plenty of time to use the restroom.
 
To avoid test anxiety, explain to your child that this test is only one measure of achievement.   Encourage your child to attempt each item and to skip any question that is causing duress. Talk with your student each day and ask how the day went. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement at home.  

The California Department of Education has two websites with STAR Released Questions.  They are an excellent resource for you to visit to help your 2-6 grade child prepare for the STAR testing that will take place in May.  There are sample questions for each grade level and for each proficiency level.  Please visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/css05rtq.asp and http://www.starsamplequestions.org/starRTQ/search.jsp to view the released test questions.
