Your Mission Statement

We all need mission statements.  They might be just like the Profile Statement on Active Rain; it might be you talking about how and why you are #1 in your market.  It might be more than these thoughts.  Here is a poem, which gives thought to an important attitude in life:

The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on a tombstone from the beginning..to the end.

He noted that the first came the date of this birth and spoke of the following date with tears,

but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For the dash represents all the time that he spent alive on earth...

and now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own; the cars...the house...the cash.

What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard ...are there things you'd like to change?

For you never know who much time is left.  (You could be at "dash mid-range.")

If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real,

and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more

and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile...

Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash...

Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?

I have a client who owns a great small store in our hometown and her mission statement is inspirational.  She is my inspiration for wanting to write a new mission statement and include it in my website.

If you have a mission statement what does your's include?  What characteristics do you think are important to how you conduct your business and ultimately how your live your life?

Karen - what a great message you are sending here.  I think we all think of our "mission statement" in different ways but I can tell you that my overall MS is to slow down and look around and see how blessed I am.  Our customers become friends and we take our business seriously and put people before sales.  We recognize that money is great, but not more important that relationships.  Thanks for sharing "The Dash".

Thank you Ines for noticing it!  I'm glad you liked it.  I love you statement, "people before sales".  I think when you put the people first the sales follow.  Thank you for your comment.

Karen - OMG! What a gorgeous picture! I love your post. I think if you're working for the commission and not the client it will be a hard won commission!

Well stated Linda.  I miss my clients when they close.  Often I tell people in my office, I have the best buyers in Washtenaw county.  I really mean it.  Makes it easier to stay in touch with past clients when you get along with them.

I'm not sure if I have a mission statement, Karen.  :o   This is probably something I should work on.

Hi Karen,

During the Quantum Leap class there is a section on your personal gifts and talents.  Part of the workbook helps you self discover what is really important to you, then you take the gifts and what is really important and it makes it easy for you to come up with your personal mission statement.  Quantum Leap was originally written by GK, in fact he gave a short version of his own during Family Reunion last year.

I'd take the Quantum Leap class and then come up with the mission statement from there. good luck,

Gary,

Can you do Quantum Leap at Family Reunion or isn'[t there enough time to do the whole program?  Great idea though.  Thanks.

Keith  & Robin,

Now that it is finally fall...it looks like this in Michigan now.  Thanks for your comments.

Karen,
Quantum Leap is a 20 hour in depth class, usually done in 2 1/2 days. You can find it on the KWU website.  Comes to most regions once or twice a year.  It would take up the entire Family Reunion.
Take care,

i think i read this poem in a chain email once.  i hate those "forward this if it touched you!" emails, they are extremely irritating and just take up inbox space.

i forwarded this one.
