squirrel

If you don't live in a place where squirrels are evil rodents who live to raid birdfeeders, you may not appreciate this humor!  Around here, squirrels are AGGRAVATING and a source of a new invention every year or so designed to keep them out of your feeders.  My brother-in-law sent this photo this morning...caption:

"Huge Squirrel Shot Attempting Daring Birdfeeder Raid"

You might guess that he's a retired military man.

Damn!

I'll have to forward that pic to my stepfather - he'll be at the mall to see if he can pick up a few of those 'killer dolls'!

Ugh.....

Leigh Love the photo!   I found the best way is just have a designated feeding area. That way they seem to leave all the other trash etc alone!  But hereon the farm, everything seems to peacefully coexist.

5 cats

1 dog

4 hens

5 ducks

2 hamsters

2 hermit crabs

countless fish in the pond!

Leigh, send some of those hunters up here to my yard!!!  I've spent some very good money on birdfeeders that are "squirrel-proof", and various other apparatus that keeps those little 4-legged critters away from the bird food!!  If they run out of squirrels in your area, we've got plenty here!!

GO G.I. Joe!  My last home had a row of walnut trees behind it and each year those wonderful squirrels would find areas to hide all their walnuts.  Such as, my shed.  They would put them in and on the lawn mower because it was stored also for the winter.  They'd have their babies in my lawn furniture cushions.  (They would chew an area out and make a very comfortable spot for themselves.)  Or the camper or anything that sat for any length of time.  Very annoying!  So I can relate BIG TIME!

Your photo is hysterical, it really got my attention.  I do enjoy the squirrels, it't the birds I can't stand. My neighbor feeds them so they can come poop all over my patio....

hmmm...seems like there's a market for squirrel guerrillas...now all we need is some enterprising soul to take on the project. =)

Too funny... I guess you won't like me when I tell you that last year, my wife and I saved three orphaned squirrels.  We hand raised them for about 2 months and turned them back out into nature.  We now have about 6 squirrels that live on our property.  I have helped breed these terrors

Jason, you are on my hit list now, buddy!  ;)  Any of you ever listen to Tim Baddour, the comic?  he has a fabulous piece on the 'animal conspiracy' where he talks about how the animal kingdom is out to get humans back for screwing things up....and he says that squirrels are surveillance. think about it. =)

I have heard that routine before... very funny.  It also reminds me of the patient from Patch Adams that had the fear of imaginary squirrels.

leigh,

That photo is a riot.

I have to admit though I am with Jason. We hardly ever see dquirrels in our yard. up north they were a daily staple. I used to name tham, and put out nuts for them.

Here we have Cardinals and Blue Jays that come by every day.

Since birds transports ticks, I don't put out feeders. Lyme disease was a big concern up North, in fact I did get bit and got the bullseye and had to go on preventitive treatment for it.

Do squirrels carry ticks? if so I might put them on my hit list

Gee, I have never seen a squirrel badger a bird!

Do you think the Yankee squirrels that I am used to are a kindler gentler breed? LOL!
