ActiveRain Photobloger Contest . . . Some things are just funny to me.

By
Real Estate Agent with Elite Texas Properties, the best homes from McKinney to Dallas!

Some things are just funny to me.  Sometimes, things I think are funny are also funny to other people.  Sometimes . . . not so much.

For example, on my wedding day, when I was standing at the alter next to my husband-to-be, our backs to the crowded church, I noticed my maid of honor -- my sister -- standing to my left looking very proper.  My mind wandered from the solemn words the minister was saying, back to the times I spent next to my sister with our heads bowed at the dinner table -- each of us trying not to let the giggles make us burst out laughing during the prayer.  Then I got an inspiration!

Hey, wouldn't it be funny to try to get my sister to laugh right now?  You know, while she's standing in front of everyone at the church?

Since none of the wedding guests could see my face, I gave it my best shot.  I tried the crazy grin, then the raised eyebrows, then the crazy grin/raised eyebrow combination.

Oooh, I think I've almost got her -- I'll try a little harder.

Oh, she could see me alright!  She tried to act like she didn't notice, but she had to try hard to keep a straight face -- yeah, I thought that was pretty funny.  Uh, the minister standing in front of me witnessing all of my facial contortions . . . not so much.

Seems like almost every day I'll come across something funny -- so much so, that I've even started a file of photos I've snapped of funny things seen around town.  Like the one of the Hamburgler jungle gym I saw in the backyard of a country property I was showing.  Or the one of the Skittles car I see driving around McKinney.

So, I was looking through some photos and found one that I've always liked, but no one else seems to appreciate its humor as much as I do.

One summer in Montana, the kids and I had spent the morning riding up a mountain trail on horseback.  It was a crystal clear day and you could see for miles.  We reached the hill's summit and stopped to rest the horses and take in the majestic view.  As we gazed out at the splendor of God's creation, I said to my son, Hey, hold your arms out and it will look like the horse is eating you for a snack.

Horse and boy on top of a mountainWhat do you think?  Funny?

Maybe it's just me.

Very funny, I love the picture. Should be framed and hanging on a wall in your home or office.

Dear Melanie,

Very funny!

I saw someone's blog contest entry before I started mine and I almost quit.  At that moment, I decided not to read any more or I would NEVER have finished!

Have a happy day -
Lynn

Funny picture Melanie. I thought your son was much taller than that.   :)

Thanks for the picture.

Melanie, yes indeed, it looks like the horse is eating your son!

And I can't believe you both didn't burst out laughing... I have a story about that myself... only it was at my mothers funeral...

This reminds me of Dudley Moore in the backseat of the car just cracking up.  His line?  Sometimes I just think funny thoughts!

Susan:  Trying a new kind of treat this time :)

Tom:  That's true -- he really looks tiny compared to the horse.

Sandi:  Thank you!

Andrea:  Oh goodness, I need to hear that story.

Mona:  Cute!  Speaking of Dudley Moore -- there's a re-make of the Arthur film coming out.

Margie:  Thank you -- yes, I think it's the more enjoyable option.

Melanie - I am also one of those people who sees humor in things that escape most others.  I think it is a way we have learned to cope with stressful situations.  However, your picture ought to be funny to most anyone that sees it. . .LOL

Melanie, yes that's a funny picture. You had your camera ready and your imagination going wild. Nicely done. I like the alter story too. Thanks for sharing.

I thought it was funny! I also thought it would have been hilarious if you were just taking a photo of your son and the horse happened to walk in front and "ruin" the shot. I always try and wait to delete "ruined" shots until after I've seen them on the large monitor, because sometimes the "ruined" shots are the best!

Much better than the pinched head between 2 fingers.  Horses just love munching on delicacies of "brain food" hors d'ouevres I'm told?

Hi Melanie, well, I think the photo is funny, too!  I realize getting married is serious, an important step, shouldn't be entered into lightly blah blah blah, but I think a little laughter and fun during the ceremony would add a lot! Funny, how we usually know which buttons to push to bring out the giggles in our siblings :-)

A unique picture indeed!  It surely does look like the horse is holding him in its mouth and ready to swallow him whole!

I think it's hilarious, but I really wish you had a picture of you making faces at your wedding ceremony.

Myrl:  I always enjoy your photos!

Craig:  Thank you.

Ben:  That's interesting that you mention that.  My son LOVES to leap in front of the camera at the last possible second.  I have lots of "failed" photos of him jumping through my shot!  Grrrr.

Kevin:  That's funny -- I hadn't seen the "pinched fingers" shots.  That's pretty goofy.

Mary:  That's so true!  My wedding was very important to me -- I think trying to make my sister laugh was a way of sharing my love with her and reminding her of the fun times we'd had together.

Sally:  There's something about the expression on the horse's face that just makes me laugh when I see it.  Like he's just so bored with it all -- meanwhile this scrawny kid is dangling there . . .

Colleen:  THANKFULLY there are NO photos of that!  No one could see my face but my sister . . . and well, the minister.  Somehow I completely forgot (for a brief moment) that he was standing right there!  I straightened up after that!

I thought of if Old Nellie whips her head to the left, poor Jimmy is a goner. Hope the nag stays friendly and the ears don't lay down, go back and the feet cause a catapult. That would ruin the vacation.
