Today's St. Augustine Record's headline "Schools Gain Recognition" referenced the top ten school districts for the money. St. Johns County Florida was #9. The average home price in St. Johns County is $182,000 according to this article. The per pupil expenditure is far below many less well-performing schools, proving that more money isn't always the answer. Dr. Joyner, the county superintendent claims, and rightfully so, those with direct contact with the students are most responsible for the district's success. Dr. Joyner has been wise with the finances, not wasteful. St. Johns is consistently top rated in the state. Turnover in St. Johns County is low, but not because of their outstanding pay scale, which could be a lot better. It's because of the dedication the staff has to the students, school, and goals set by the district. Congratulations once again to St. Johns County, Florida... home of St. Augustine.
