This is a very big weekend in Ponte Vedra with THE PLAYERS Championship Tournament. We plan on going on Sunday. It is always an enjoyable event. It is called THE PLAYERS, but old habits die hard and most of us locals still call it the TPC---sorry PGA Tour.

But look at all the other fun things to do this weekend in the St. Augustine area. One can easily see why visiting here is fun, but if you are going to Move to Florida, you need to look at the St. Augustine area.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday: May 13-15

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
The game's greatest players compete at TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach. THE PLAYERS Championship is recognized by PGA TOUR members as "their" championship tournament. It features one of the most coveted titles in professional golf, the strongest field of competitors and the richest purse. Previous winners of THE PLAYERS Championship include Tim Clark in 2010, Henrik Stenson in 2009, Sergio Garcia in 2008, Phil Mickelson in 2007, Stephen Ames - 2006, Fred Funk - 2005, and many other greats.  The competition takes place Thursday through Sunday and will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel from 1 to 7 p.m. and on NBC on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m.  For ticket package information, call 904.285.PUTT or 1.800.741.3161 or visit www.pgatour.com.

 

MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER

JEFFERSON STARSHIP AT PONTE VEDRA CONCERT HALL
Experience a performance by Jefferson Starship at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, a stop on their 40th Anniversary Tour.  Original members Paul Kantner & David Freiberg, along with other band members will perform Somebody to Love, Wooden Ships, White Rabbit and many other favorites.  The show starts at 7 p.m. and VIP tickets are $55 per person, regular admission is $40 per person. WASHINGTON OAKS GARDENS PLANT SALE & CITRUS SHOWCASE
Join the Friends of Washington Oaks for their 2nd Saturday Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Choose from citrus plants for the patio/lanai, Valentine's plants for your sweetheart and many other varieties.  A portion of the plants for sale were propagated and grown right there in the park by volunteers.  All proceeds benefit the park for enhancement of current and new facilities. BOCCE BY THE SEA
Bowl with the Sons of Italy at this bocce tournament at the St. Johns County Pier Park in St. Augustine Beach.  The action takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For details, call 904.471.7089.


ANNUAL DINE ON THE WILD SIDE
Explore the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park and enjoy a complete BBQ or vegetarian dinner and lively entertainment at this annual event that helps to raise funds for HAWKE, a not-for-profit organization licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Federal US Fish and Wildlife Service to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wild birds, mammals, and reptiles. Dine on the Wild Side is from 6 to 9 p.m., but come early to enjoy the park and then stay all evening to participate in a guided tour of the bird rookery to view thousands of birds including endangered wood storks. SONGS FOR ST. AUGUSTINE AT ST. ANASTASIA CATHOLIC CHURCH
Enjoy and evening of musical performances by concert artist Gregory Sheppard accompanied by Pianist Byron Sean. They will be performing their collaborations in an Evening of Song for St. Augustine. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South, St. Augustine Beach.  Admission is free.


ST AUGUSTINE GARRISON Spanish Colonial Grand Muster
Be part of the Grand Muster parade, a St. Augustine tradition that commemorates the events leading up to the 1740 invasion of Spanish Florida by the British colonies to the north.  This reenactment will begin at the City Gates on the north end of St. George Street at 7:30 p.m. where the guard will be changed, a musket volley will be fired, and new sentries posted. Visitors are then invited to join the Grand Muster Parade and follow the Spanish governor, his soldiers, and townsfolk in the Grand Muster celebration as they march down St. George Street to the Plaza de la Constitution for the Blessing of the Flag at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. The Grand Muster parade will conclude at the Governor's Palace with a salute of musket-fire in honor of the Governor. For more information, visit www.staugustinegarrison.com.

DOO-WOP MUSICAL SALUTE
Experience an exciting musical salute to The Platters, The Coasters, The Drifters and the Temptations at Fort Menendez at Old Florida Museum. TASTE OF THE BEACH

ST AUGUSTINE COMMUNITY CHORUS MASTERWORKS CONCERT
